Slazengers U16 girls had the perfect end to the last tournament of 2011. The weather certainly was the first challenge with the cold temperatures, horizontal rain & hail & a very blustery wind to boot.
Slazenger (3) vs. (0) L.A. Carnegie
The first game was against Leeds Adel Carnegie, the girls stayed focused despite the testing conditions & came away with a well deserved win. First on the score sheet was Nayeesha Tejura, closely followed by Georgia Housten . Leeds made some good breaks which were picked up by our steadfast defensive duo of Evie Johnson & Millie Crowther. Slazengers kept the pressure on the Leeds defence & were able to pick up another goal from a great strike from Katie Browne to make the final score a 3-0 win to Slazengers.
Slazenger (2) vs. (0) Rotherham
The girls were straight on to face a very strong Rotherham, the sides were quite evenly matched with the play being end to end. Again a well positioned Georgia Housten scored a great goal on the back post, Rotherham were quick on the counter attack but were denied by goalkeeper, Chloe Bates. Slazengers kept applying the pressure and earned themselves another goal from Nayeesha Tejura. Final score was a 2-0 win to Slazengers.
Slazenger (5) vs. (0) Selby/Pocklington
The girls had a one match break & then were back on the pitch ready to face their next opponents, Huddersfield Dragons. The girls dominated from the start, made great use of the whole pitch . Sophie Williams distributed the ball perfectly to the mid field duo of Rebecca Jessop & Jess Holland. Their hard work payed off when Georgia Housten found herself on the score sheet yet again, this proved to be the first of a hatrick of goals for player of the tournament Georgia Housten. Also finding the back of the net was Hannah Field & Jess Holland. A 5-0 win was a great result keeping confidence high for the following game against Selby/Pocklington.
A superb defensive display by Selby/Pocklington denied numerous Slazenger attacks, strikes on goal from Daisy Burrows & Elle Spruce all saved off of the line . Despite their best efforts, Selby/Pocklington were unable to deny all efforts & Slazengers scored two great goals, both great strikes from Rebecca Jessop. Final score a 2-0 win.
Slazenger (1) vs. (0) Halifax
Despite the hail & rain, the girls persevered into thei final game against the strong home side of Halifax. Halifax put up stiff opposition but the attacking play from Slazengers was relentless. Daisy Burrows playing outstanding as centre forward,Slazengers had many attacks on goal but again, a ball played around the goal to the in form Georgia Housten saw Slazengers break the deadlock . This proved to be the only goal of the match but another win to Slazengers saw a perfect end to the day. A great all round team display resulted in clean sheets across the board & five well deserved wins.
