After an undeserved defeat in their opening league match to Barnsley 1st last week Slazenger’s Men’s 2nd team deserved their home win against Doncaster 6th on Saturday. Slaz won convincingly 4-2 but loss of concentration cost them a clean sheet 2 goals.
Slaz started the match strongly and were continuously creating chances in the first 20 minutes and were soon leading 2-0. The first was scored by Matt Green with an unstoppable shot from a through ball passed by Matt Banks. Matt Green also began the second, injecting the ball into the “D”. This was picked up by Man of the Match Isaac Fisher, deflecting the ball to Byron Dean, who flicked it past the keeper with a neat reverse shot.
Although Slaz had a comfortable lead Doncaster started creating chances of their own, but were denied by some great saves from the Slaz keeper Giles Field. The third goal came ten minutes before half time with a great strike from Jake Barras just inside the D, set up by Neil Crouch who worked tirelessly all match.
After the break both teams were pushing for the next goal and both were struggling in the unusual October heat, which created end-to-end hockey. Slaz, however got their forth and final goal from Simon Randall. Neil Crouch set up the goal with an accurate long pass to Isaac fisher who then ran into the D and crossed the ball through the defence for Simon to slot it home. With five minutes to go it was looking like a great win and team performance for slaz, but with two controversial gaols given to Doncaster put a damper on the result.
Next week slaz have an away match against Leeds 5th.
