Saturday 8th October, an early morning, cold spectators and a astounding 8-0 win against Huddersfield Dragons for Slazengers ladies 2nd team.
The morning started off with Lisa Minchella setting her eyes on that one goal she hoped to score. However in her 14 years of playing at Slazengers she was yet to succeed in scoring her goal… until today. Not only did she battle hard defensively with Karen Bates and Sarah Ritchey who took player of the match, she scored the first goal of the day, setting up the team for their 8 nil win.
Millie Crowther went on to score the second goal, stealing it away from Sue Hope by giving it the last touch to secure the goal. Shortly after, two others were scored by Daisy Gee Saunders on a short corner and Nez Rollinson hitting it off two defenders feet before finally scoring her goal, finishing the first half 4 nil.
The second half started off a little shaky with both Daisy Gee Saunders and Sue Hope thinking the goal was bigger than it was, especially Sue who had even taken the ball around the keeper but still managed to miss the big white poles and the large net that constitutes the goal! However Sue earned back her honour when Slazengers were awarded a penalty flick when the opposition stopped the ball with their foot on the line. Then looking calm and easy, Sue flicked it into the left hand corner of the goal.
Both teams battled hard throughout the match, but Slazengers was the stronger team with Stacey Binns putting strong crosses into the area and Donna Wood following on, scoring two deflected goals. The match was ended on a high when Lauren Carruthers took the ball from the half way line, past all the opposition with the help of Daisy Gee Saunders and secured an open play goal making it an even 8.
