Slazengers men’s second team hosted league leaders Chapeltown 3s, in the end losing 4-1.
Although the result shows why Chapleltown are top of the league, it was a match of two halves. In the first half Slazengers were Chapeltown’s equal creating as many if not more chances than the visitors and both teams could have taken the lead but going into half time the score was 0-0. (Perhaps this was aided by the infamous pre-match team talk from Rob Whawell “We’re probably going to lose…..”)
The second half started like the first ended with both teams pushing for a goal but Chapeltown broke the deadlock by scoring off a penalty stroke. With the visitors taking the lead Slazenger’s heads seem to drop and Chapeltown’s second and third goals soon came from well-worked attacks. Although Slazengers were 3-0 down they were still trying to get back in the match and were still creating chances and but were unable to stop Chapeltown scoring a fourth.
Slazengers were able to grab a consolation goal with ten minutes to go through a short corner and was scored by Matt Middleton. Man of the match was Paul Johnson.
Slazengers next match is against away at Hull University 2nd on 26th march.
