Slazengers Ladies 2nds travelled away to a much changed and stronger Sheffield University Bankers side this weekend and were unfortunate to come away with a 2-0 loss. Sheffield started strong and soon scored although Slazengers kept their heads high and battled on with some good breaks from midfielders Frankie Tyrell and Stacey Binns setting up strong attacks with Elle Poskett. The Slazengers attackers made the Sheffield defenders work hard and were unlucky not to.
Slazengers were 2-0 down by half time but came back fighting. Two one-on-one chances with the Goal Keeper went unscored although one was hindered by a controversial tackle and we could only come close through a short corner strike from Lydia Luxford that went just wide. There were some great runs from attackers Phe Secker and Daisy Sanders which were kept out by a lucky Sheffield defence. Defenders Jess Lloyd and Lydia Luxford worked hard in the second half to keep the Sheffield attackers out with great back up from central midfielders Nez Rollinson and Sue Hope and many brilliant saves by Lisa Chapel, not conceding a goal in the second half.
It was a great team effort, which showed through a three-way tie for man of the match (Sue Hope, Nez Rollinson, Lisa Chapel). An unfortunate end to a hard fought match but Slazengers are still in the running for a promotion spot with things tight at the top between 4 clubs. Next week the ladies head to Leeds Adel Carnegie to get back to winning ways.
