Both teams went into this game with nerves with it being the first game since November due to to weather cancellations and the fact that it was a local derby. Slazengers dominated the game from the off showing why they were top of the Yorkshire Premier league and kept possession putting pressure on the Wakefield defense.
Within 15 minutes Wakefield got a lucky break and attacked the top of the Slazenger D and slipped the ball past Slazengers Keeper Eleanor to go into the right hand corner of the goal. As this goal was against the flow of play, Slazengers steamed ahead from the push-back and Sarah Cooper capitalised with a well placed strike from the top of the D at an awkward angle to go in the bottom corner past Wakefields Second Team Goal Keeper.
The score line was 1 – 1 at half time with all to play for, Slazengers to remain top of the league and Wakefield to win the Derby game and earn valuable points in this extremely hard competitive league. Slazengers maintained the pressure and with a number of attacks, eventually Andrea Wallace converted a scappy ball that had been bouncing round the D. Slazengers ended the game 2 – 1 up and maintained their top of the league position.
