Slazengers mens first team travelled to Thirks mens first team looking to cement their unbeaten start to the season and came away with a well deserved 4-1 win. Slazengers were on top straight from the start and took a deserved lead when Ben Graham turned his defender and finished well from the top of the ‘D’. Slazengers continued to press and soon doubled their lead with Paul Wiper finishing off an excellent move down the right, Dan Perry had the initial run and laid it off for Jez Whawell who in turned switched it to Wiper who finished well. Slazengers continued to play good hockey and Graham got his second after a driving run through the centre by Wiper broke down, only for the ball to fall to Graham for an easy tap in.Slazengers failed to keep that elusive clean sheet though when Thirsk pulled one back towards the end of the half after a defensive lapse. The second half wasn’t as fluent as first half as Slazengers play started to become a bit too one dimensional and they lost the passing that they had shown so well over previous weeks. They did however continue to create chances, Graham going close after good work from man of the match Adam Drake and Wiper going close on a number of occasions aswell only to fall foul of the defense at the last minute. Wiper did grab his second of the game walking the ball into an open goal after some good passing had left the keeper stranded. With no league game next week, Slazengers will be looking to their cup quarter final against higher league Doncaster to continue their good run of form.
