Slazengers hockey club take 6 wins from 6. After a turbulent few seasons at Slazengers hockey club, for the first time in a number of seasons all mens and womens teams came away from this weekends games with a win. Slazengers mens first team lead the way with a deserved 3-1 victory away at Sheffield Hallam mens 5’s.Slazengers were much the stronger side and immediately threatened with Dan Perry penetrating well down the right and centred the ball only for Ben Graham to be illegaly bundled off the ball when the finish was almost a formality. No flick resulted however much to Slazengers displeasure. Heads didn’t drop though and Slazengers eventually took the lead with Phil Midgely converting a well worked short corner routine. The lead was soon double with Midgely grabbing his second, again from a short corner although the finish was far from convincing.Slazengers continued to press looking to close the game off before half time only for Sheffield Hallam to grab a goal back just before the break. Hallam came out the strongest at the start of the second half and had a good 10 minutes of pressure but some excellent goal keeping from James Walker and strong defence from Will Buckley kept them out. Slazengers nerves were soon calmed though with Dan Perry scoring an excellent individual goal, picking the ball up on halfway, driving though a number of defenders and finishing cooly under the advancing keeper.
Slazengers continued to play to the end and could have scored more, Graham, John Sykes and Paul Wiper all coming close only to be denied by the Hallam keeper. Slazengers will look to continue their strong start to the season at home to Brigg seconds on Saturday.
