James Swinden was Slazenger’s four-goal hero in this comprehensive defeat of middlesbrough side Marten Furness.
‘Furness started thie North Division East 2 Clash on top as Slazenger struggled to get the ball out of their defence. However, on their first breakaway, Slazenger out-stripped the Furness defence and Swinden applied a cool finish.
Slaz slowly seized the initiative and doubled their lead when Mike Thornicroft was wel set up by a combination of Simon Chamberlain and Alec Gilston. Not to be outdone by his brother, Mark Swinden bravely knocked the ball past the Furness keeper shortly afterwards.
Slazenger were pegged back when Furness struck through a penalty corner but went into helf time 4-1 up as James Swinden replied, also from a penalty corner.
Midfielders, Paul Wiper, Chris Hayton and Mark Swinden largely controlled the gam in the second half and although Furness scored first, Swinden quickly completed his hat trick from another penalty corner and ended his scoring streak with a fourth after a fantastic Slazenger passing movement which began deep in their own half.
Skipper Simon Chamerlain, rounded off the scoring with a penalty stroke.
This win gives Slazenger plenty of confidence going into their clash with table-topping Norton next Saturday at home starting at 1:30pm
