Slazenger thirds took another giant stride up the Yorkshire League Division 6 with a narrow 2-1 victory away at local rivals Huddersfield thirds.
The visitors opened well, passing the ball fluently and creating chances from the start. Robert Stephens led the forward line well but it was Jonathan Clewlow who opened the scoring for Slazenger, beating the goalie at the top of the D after being put through by playmaker Simon Miller.
Slazenger’s rearguard of Micky Turner, Ian Wiper and keeper Jonathan Walker were in formidable form, restricting the Huddersfield front line to limited chances.
In the second half, a quickly taken 16 yard hit started the move that swept the full length of the pitch and led to Slazenger’s second goal. James Walker’s fine run set up Clewlow for his second goal of the day. Huddersfield pulled a goal back late on but the visitors’ defence held firm for the win.
