Report: 17-03-2001 – Mens 1st’s (5) vs (0) Huddersfield 1st’s

March 17, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger realised their promotion dream on Saturday with a convincing Yorkshire Division 1 win over Huddersfield.

From the start, Slazenger were on top and passed the ball around to produce one of their best performances of the season.

Huddersfield came close first but were held by the strong Slazenger defence.

Slazenger’s first goal came off a well-worked short corner with Simon Chamberlain hitting home the rebound.

Slazenger continued to push but were denied by an in-form goalkeeper before half-time.

It didn’t take long into the second half. however until Slazenger opened up a two goal gap with a strike by man of the match Mark Butel.

Slazenger pressed hard once more and Butel made it 3-0 with a reverse stick shot.

Alec Gilston made it four and Butel completed his hat trick to put Slazenger into East Pennine League Division 2 next year in emphatic style.

Slazenger play Bradford University on Saturday, 1:30pm, then hope to make it a league and cup double on April 1 in the First XI Fup final with Chapeltown at College Grove 1.15pm.
