Second-half consolidation offers Slazenger hope of league success
Slazenger were well up for this hard game against a Leeds team two divisions higher than themselves – but class told.
It was clear after the first five minutes that Slazenger were going to have a lot of running to do, with midfielders Nick Webb and Will Buckley chasing the ball continually.
The defence produced a great performance, despite a constant barrage, and they conceeded only two goals in the first half.
In the second half, Slazenger managed to up the ante and began to break down Leeds with great tackling from Jonny Wiper – and good keeping from Dave Hellam meant Slazenger conceded only one more in the second half.
This hard-fought game was just what Slazenger needed to shake them up before their Division 1 opener.
