Report: 19-12-2015 – Mens 2nd’s (2) vs. (5) Tadcaster Magnets 1st’s

December 19, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers Mens 2nd team found themselves travelling to Tadcaster on Saturday for a 10.30am push and with a number of players suffering from Christmas parties the previous evening, found themselves 4-0 down at half time. The scoreline didn’t fully reflect the game as Slazengers created a number of chances and had an open goal gone in when the score was 2-0, things could have been a lot closer.

After some harsh words at half time, Slazengers put in a much better 2nd half performance winning the half 2-1 but ending up 5-2 losers overall. Goals came from Matt Green and Simon Chamberlain. After a number of player losses at the start of the season, Slazengers will be happy to find themselves in mid table.

Matt Chilton has been excellent following his debut with the 2nd’s and the team will be looking to consolidate their position going into the 2nd half of the season.

Ladies 3rd's - Mollie Gilbert

Ladies 3rd’s – Mollie Gilbert

The first game back after the Christmas break saw Slazengers ladies 3s take on Tadcaster Magnets 2s in an early afternoon home fixture. Slazengers were looking to improve on a 0-0 draw from earlier in the season and made a good start to the game with early pressure resulting in them taking the lead through midfielder Ellie Page.

A second followed not long after with an outstanding goal for 13 year old Molly Gilbert, who in her debut game, swept the ball in from just inside the penalty area, taking the half time score to 2-0.
The second half also began well for Slazengers and it was not long before the lead was extended to 3-0 with Ellie Pages’ second goal of the game. It quickly became 4-0 with Emily Chason knocking the ball in at the left post from a short corner.

The scoring was closed at 5-0 when the ball was pushed over the line by centre forward Louise Beever. A good performance for Slazengers with player of the match being shared by Molly Gilbert and Emily Entwisle.

Report: 04-10-2014 – Ladies 3rd’s (0) vs. (0) Tadcaster Magnets 1st’s

October 4, 2014 by Slazenger HC

It was the third game of the season for Slazengers Ladies 3s and along with it came their first point of the season against a newly promoted Tadcaster side.

Slazengers dominated in the mid field however, despite this, they were unable to find the finishing touch.

Performances of note came from Alice Gasgoine and Ellie Page who once again showed her potential in midfield. It would be fair to say that Slazengers were unlucky to come away with a goalless draw.

Report: 13-10-2012 – Mens 4th’s (3) vs. (2) Tadcaster Magnets 2nd’s

October 16, 2012 by Slazenger HC

The men’s 4th team pulled off a great escape in the last minute of time, scoring to take the 3 points.
Slaz worked hard in a well contested battle. With goals from Matt Stacey and super-sub James “Moog” Walker. However, Tadcaster replied in kind, and the game was held at a draw.
It wasn’t until the final minutes of the game that a quick passing movement set up Moog to net his second of the game. Final score 3-2 Slazenger.

Report: 22-01-2011 – Ladies 3rd’s (3) vs (1) Tadcaster Magnets

January 22, 2011 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Ladies 3rd’s hockey team were back to winning form for their first home game of the year. Slazengers were playing Tadcaster Magnets and took charge of the game from the off. Sally Thornton was first on the score sheet from a fantastic ball through from Becky Stafford, a clinical finish from the far post . Roxy Farris & Elle Poskett formed a formidable duo which Tadcaster found hard to keep pace with. The midfield partnership of Julie Bacon & Becky Stafford worked really well with the ball been distributed out wide to Gemma Whittam & Chelsea Armitage. Slazengers were denied repeatedly by a great performance from the Tadcaster keeper who was kept extremely busy . Tadcaster were then awarded a short corner , the initial shot was cleared but Tadcaster were quick to follow the rebound which secured their first goal.

Man of the match player Jess Holland had a fantastic game & worked tirelessly in right midfield & was certainly unlucky not to score . The next goal came from a great hit out from Julie Finch picking out a run from Roxy Farris, a great solo effort saw Roxy drive the ball around numerous defenders & then conclude with a great goal.

Team talk at half time called for more of the same & Slazengers really dug deep & worked hard . Slazengers had most of the attacking play but Tadcaster had a couple of good breaks which goalkeeper Chloe Bates cleared well. Lauren Fealy caused Tadcaster all sorts of problems down the left with some really good breaks. Slazengers had numerous short corner awards but failed to capitalise on these until Beccy Stafford laid off a lovely ball to Julie Bacon who put away Slazengers third of the game. Slazengers pushed to the final whistle but the score remained at 3-1, a good win for Slazengers 3rds.

Report: 30-10-2010 – Ladies 3rd’s (0) vs. (0) Tadcaster 2nd’s

October 30, 2010 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers continue to improve their game play in each match , the midfield partnership of Jess Holland & Julie Bacon worked well with the ball being distributed well across both sides of the pitch.Player of the match Katie Brown made countless driving runs down the right of the pitch & played some inviting balls across the D, each of which Slazengers failed to convert.

There was certainly no lack of effort from forwards Elle Poskett & Zoe Bacon, who both had numerous attempts on goal which were all cleared by Tadcasters defence.

This match proved to be just one of those games for Slazengers, despite their best efforts , the ball was not going to cross the goal line .Tadcaster did create a couple of chances which defensive duo of Jessica Lloyd & Julie Finch dealt with easily . The only real attempt on goal by Tadcaster was dealt with by a spectacular diving save by stand in keeper Karen Bates. The last minutes of the game saw a final attack made by a strong driving run by Kate Durrans, linking up perfectly with Sally Thornton who played another great ball into the D, again Slazengers were denied a goal by Tadcasters defence , the final whistle blew to leave the result a 0-0 draw.

Report: 27-10-2001 – Mens 4th’s (4) vs (1) Tadcaster 2nd’s

October 27, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Hale and hearty Slazenger fourths pulled no punches in their 4-1 away win over a tidy Tadcaster seconds outfit.

Slazenger were solid all the way up the middle and went two up with goals from Dave Smyth and Richard Hutchins. Tadcaster pegged one back but this merely spurred Slazenger on to better things and two more goals for Smyth and James Walker.

Player of the match went to R. Wilby. Slazenger entertain Leeds fourths on Saturday, 1.30pm.

March 24, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger fourths worked hard for their points from a 1-1 home draw with Tadcaster seconds.

Gavin Kay came up with a customary wonder goal, but Slazenger may see the game as two points lost as the side hoped to be pushing for promotion for the second year in succession.

Report: 27-11-1999 – Mens 2nd’s (1) vs (1) Tadcaster 1st’s

November 27, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger seconds battled out a 1-1 draw with Tadcaster firsts.

Slazenger approached the match in confident mood after a strong performance the previous week. However, Tadcaster struggling at the wrong end of the table belied their position with an enterprising start that produced a surprised early goal.

Slazenger hit back almost immediately. For the rest of the half, they played fast, skillful hockey.

Mark Swinden produced a powerful performance to earn himself the man of the man of the match award, but it was not until late in the half, after a succession of penalty corners that Slazenger drew level.

They won a penalty flick and Stu Howie returning after a long break, stepped up to convert with confidence.

Slazenger dominated the second half but were unable to translate their authority into goals.

On Saturday, Slazenger are away to Harrogate thirds.
