Report: 14-11-2015 – Mens 2nd’s (1) vs. (1) Leeds 4th’s

November 14, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers mens 2nd team recorded their second 1-1 draw in as many weeks on Saturday at home to Leeds. Slazengers will have been pleased with a much improved performance creating a number of chances throughout the game.

Jake Barras was excellent at centre forward with some strong play as was Matt Chilton on the right wing who created a number of chances. Leeds scored first against the run of play with Slazengers equalising before half time, their goal coming from Ste Roberts from a well worked short corner.

Both teams had chances in the 2nd half but nobody could convert with the game finishing 1-1.

Report: 14-11-2015 – Ladies 1st’s (0) vs. (5) Leeds Adel 1st’s

November 14, 2015 by Slazenger HC

From the off, the horbury side knew this weeks match was going to be a tough one. Slazengers Ladies 1’s, had a difficult game against undefeated, top of the league team, Adel.

The team started off, undeterred, and raring for the match ahead. Slazengers dampened Adel’s shine, making the usually dominant team look rather average. Unfortunately Adel managed to sneak 3 goals past the strong defence, 2 of which the umpire admitted perhaps shouldn’t have been goals. The Slaz side were playing well as a team, some of the best hockey they have played all season.

Entering the second half Slaz were 3-0 down, but upped their game in the second half to only finish 4-0. A fantastic result against the strong Adel team who have been beating most opposition with 8 or 9 goals.

Tracy Lorriman had a great stint in goal, despite the result, and is improving with every match. Yet again some strong defending from Minchella and Wallace duo. The midfield miracles Tyrrell and Gunn, ran their socks off covering box to box during the challenging match. This weeks match has prepared us well for local derby game next week against Huddersfield Dragons.

Report: 07-11-2015 – Mens 1st’s (4) vs. (2) Leeds Adel 1st’s

November 7, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger mens 1st’s hosted Adel 1sts on Saturday, expecting a tough encounter with the high flying top of the league side. However, it was the visitors who struggled, eventually being run out 4-2

It was the a quick, end to end game, with both sides playing some free flowing hockey. Slaz struck first, a 40 meter aerial from half back Phil Midgley found Ian Hedges, and while the keeper was out quick, blocking his shot, Richard Tuddenham followed up to get the opener. The team continued to press, with a second goal coming from a goal mouth scramble which Matt Stacey slotted away.

In the second half, Adel came out fast, looking to steal the initiative and indeed it was the visitors who struck back, quickest. Matt Stacey was there again however to counter it, with an aggressive solo effort, finishing on the reverse.

Adel continued to press, but Slazenger put in a huge effort to close out any attacking options. Paul Wiper, Isaac Fisher and Stacey held the midfield, along with hard work from the Slazenger defence and keeper Andy Loftus.

Tuddenham capitalised on a late Slaz break to score a fourth. In the dying seconds however, Adel won a penalty corner, and netted a consolation goal on the final whistle.

Report: 10-12-2011 – Mens 1st’s (4) vs. (2) L.A.Carnegie 3rd’s

December 10, 2011 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger 1sts travelled away to Leeds Met Uni to face off against Leeds Adel Carnegie 3rd’s. The pitch was recently relayed and provide a fast surface, to which Slazenger took to well. Some fast hockey from Slazenger showed intent, with fast darting attacks keeping Carnegie on the defensive.

Man of the match Dan Perry made quick work of the defence, flying down the wing and cutting into the D to shoot on goal. However, the defence was enough to prevent goals early on; an unispiring performance from the Horbury side were unable to capitalise on a weaker opposition. Richard Tuddenham had plenty of chances, but didnt pose a threat to good keeping until the last five minutes. Paul Wiper had a good game at right inner and commanded the attacking midfield. The home team were able to capitalise on some weak marking to find the net twice, however goals from Tuddenham and Wiper (2) secured the win.

Isaac Fisher had another good game with excellent ball skills and distribution. Slaz didn’t inspire and did just enough to win the game. A victory at the halfway point of the league lifts the team into 2nd place in the table.

Report: 14-10-2007 – Mens 2nd’s (6) vs. (4) Leeds Adel 4th’s

October 13, 2007 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger 2nd’s progressed to the next round of the Yorkshire League B Cup with a deserved 6-4 win at Leeds Adel Carnegie 4ths.

James Walker gave Slazenger the lead midway through the first half while Ben Graham was thwarted several times by the LA keeper.

It was end to end stuff in the second half. Eddie Taylor doubled Slazenger’s lead and Graham finally broke his duck with a sound finish.

Carnegie pegged two back, but Neil Croucher added to the visitors tally and Graham claimed his second again after Carnegie had scored.

Skipper Croucher threaded a neat ball through for man of the match Walker to wrap up the scoring.

Taylor brothers, Eddie and Simon ran their socks off for Slazenger.

Report: 13-10-2007 – Mens 1st’s (4) vs. (5) Leeds Adel 1st’s

October 13, 2007 by Slazenger HC

Sorry Slazenger suffered a disappointing 5-4 defeat at the hands of LA Carnegie.

Slazenger trailed 5-0 towards the latter stages of the first half after stating poorly and struggling to contain Leeds Adel.

But Slazenger improved as the half wore on and pulled back a couple of goals before the break through Rich Hutchins.

Hutchins bagged two more goals, but it wasn’t quite enough to alter the outcome in Slazenger’s favour.

Slazenger have a tough task against Sheffield Hallam on Saturday, but feel if they can repeat this second half display over the two halves then they should come away with a win.
