Report: 05-12-1999 – Boys U16 Report

Slazenger U16's had an excellent day's hockey in the latest round of Yorkshire Youth League matches. Skipper James Swinden led his side to two wins and a draw for seven valuable points. Frustrated by excellend goalkeeping against Driffield, Slazenger had to settle for a 0-0 draw. But the side went on to record 1-0 and 3-0 victories over Bradford and Rotherham respectively. Report: 05-12-1999 – Boys U18 Report

Hero of the hour Thomas Penistone made two penalty shoot-out saves to steer Slazenger U18's into the quarter finals of the RAF Youth Hockey Cup. Slazenger and York were locked at 1-1 each at the end of normal time of a game played on a partly frozen pitch. James Swinden bagged the vital in-game goal. Unbeaten Slazenger underlined their Yorkshire League 2 championship potential with a 5-0 thrashing of title contenders Acomb. The Horbury side took a good while to settle but held a slender on goal advantage by half time courtesy of another well worked short corner routine dispatched by Butel. Report: 04-12-1999 – Mens 5th’s (4) vs. (1) Wakefield

Slazenger fifths were just too skillful and too quick for cross-city rivals Wakefield and subsequently ran out comforatble 4-1 winners at College Grove. Wakefield did take to lead from a very good short corner but from their on in it was all Slazenger. Scorers were Haydn Foster, Paul Whitman, Richard O'shea and Simon Hurley.
