The Battle of the Pitch (Cup)
The stage was set. The teams assembled. And with the whistle blown, Slazenger entered the arena ready for battle. From the opening exchanges, Slazenger took the fight to Sheffield, attacking with all the determination of the Avengers facing their latest threat.
And then came our first hero moment. Mark Hammond stepped up, producing some excellent work to give Slazenger the breakthrough and a deserved lead. 1–0 Slazenger. 💥 The momentum was ours. Confidence was growing. For a while, everything was going according to plan. But every Marvel fan knows one thing... The enemy always strikes back.
Just before half-time, Sheffield found their equaliser, sending the two sides into the break locked at 1–1. The second half turned into a battle.
Sheffield pushed forward, but Slazenger stood their ground. At the heart of the resistance was Issac Rawlings, putting in some outstanding defensive work — throwing himself into challenges, breaking up attacks and refusing to give Sheffield an easy route through. For long spells, the Slazenger defence looked like it had its own vibranium shield. 🛡️
But eventually, Sheffield found a way through. Their second goal turned the game on its head and left Slazenger trailing 2–1. There was still time for one final push. Slazenger battled on, searching for the kind of late comeback worthy of the big screen, but this time there was to be no dramatic post-credits twist.
Full-time: Slazenger 1–2 Sheffield.
A frustrating defeat, but a performance packed with effort, determination and some genuinely heroic defending. But as every good Marvel story teaches us... This isn’t the end. The heroes will return. 🦸♂️🏑
To be continued…

Match Report
Slazenger 4s welcomed Sheffield University Bankers 7s to home turf for a challenging league fixture, knowing they would need to start sharply against a well-organised visiting side.
The hosts did exactly that, striking early in the 6th minute. A bright opening spell paid off when Slazenger moved the ball quickly through midfield before finishing calmly to give the home side a deserved early lead and set the tone for an energetic first quarter.
Sheffield responded well, however, and began to grow into the game. Their equaliser came in the 15th minute after sustained pressure, before they added a second in the 25th minute to swing the momentum their way. Just five minutes later, Sheffield capitalised on a short corner in the 30th minute, converting clinically to make it 3–1 heading towards the break.
Despite Slazenger continuing to battle and create moments going forward, Sheffield extended their lead shortly after half time. In the 45th minute, the visitors were awarded a penalty flick, which was confidently dispatched to make it 4–1.
To their credit, Slazenger kept competing until the final whistle, showing resilience and commitment across the pitch, even as Sheffield managed the game well in the closing stages. While the score line didn’t reflect the effort from the home side, there were positives to take from the strong start and periods of solid play against a disciplined opposition.
Slazengers will look to build on those positives as they prepare for their next fixture.

Match Report
Slaz travelled to Sheffield University Bankers on Saturday morning and looked to gain a result away from home after a break due to the snow. Sheffield had the better of the early exchanges as they looked to get through the Slaz defences. Slaz looked vulnerable at the back and this proved after Sheffield managed to score 3 in the first half to lead 3-0 at the break.
Slaz knew they had to perform better in the second half to come away with a respectable result. A slight change in formation and a more attacking mind-set meant Slaz started the second half much more positively than the first. However, Sheffield were the team to score first to effectively put the game to bed. Slaz continued to fight and managed to score two from a short corner for Steve Fealy and a deflected cross from Tom Hyde meant the final score was 4-2 to Sheffield.
Man of the match went to Steve Fealy for some good play all around the pitch.
Match Report
Slaz looked to avenge last weeks terrible result at Worksop as they entertained Sheffield University Bankers. Slaz started much better as they were keeping the ball well in the first half and creating chances without conceding but so were Bankers. It looked to be 0-0 at half time until a late goal put the away side in front.
Slaz came out from half time in a positive manner and managed to grab one back after a goalmouth scramble through Davy Ramsdale. As Slaz continued to press Bankers eventually scored 3 goals as Slaz lacked numbers in defence and led 4-1. The home side managed to get one back through Chris Flavell for his first goal at Slaz.
Even though the result wasn't ideal it was a much better performance than last week and a lot of things to improve on. Man of the Match went to Chris Flavell for a good all round performance and a first goal.
