Match Report

Slazenger 4th team suffered a rare setback with a 3–0 away defeat to title rivals Rotherham in a clash between the league’s top two sides. Going into the match, Slazenger sat top of the table, with Rotherham in second, and the game reflected the intensity expected of a meeting between the division’s leading sides. The opening exchanges were competitive, with Slazenger looking to control possession while Rotherham pressed high and looked to create chances through quick breaks.

Rotherham made their pressure count in the first half, scoring twice to take control of the contest. Slazenger battled hard and created a handful of opportunities of their own, but were unable to find a breakthrough before the interval against a well-organised home defence. In the second half, Slazenger showed good character and pushed forward in search of a way back into the game. However, Rotherham remained disciplined and added a third goal after the break to effectively seal the result.

Despite the defeat, Slazenger remain first in the league, with Rotherham still close behind in second. The match served as a reminder of the fine margins at the top of the table, and Slazenger will be determined to bounce back strongly in their next fixture.

Match Report

After sizing the team up and reviewing their previous results Slaz knew it would be a tough game. The day was sunny and bit too warm for some. Rotherham started quicky and dominated the first fifteen mins with Slaz needing most of their players back in their own half. After riding out the pressure Slaz started to grow into the game and finished the first half nil nil. The half time talk was all positive Slaz recognized that we need to support the player with the ball better.

In the second half Slaz started strongly which resulted in Roo Birkett striking the ball into the back of the net from open play. Slaz then started to find the wings more and more as the game went on as Chris and Ben found the space. They were supported well by James, John, Paul, Andy in the midfield in attack. Without the ball Slaz marked up every time and reduced Rotherham to hopeful hits up the middle. Harry and Mark teamed up well to snuff out any of those chances having each others back. Towards the end Rotherham had a last push for the equalizer and came close but always missed the target just being outside of the posts. Dave, Isaac and Lucas tracking back hard to either get a stick in or put pressure on. The game finished at 1-0 win for Slaz. It was great to see some big smiles from the team and especially from Daz Saxton who was buzzing about the clean sheet. A great team effort

Match Report

Slaz hosted Rotherham on the Sunday in their final league game of the season. With a few players missing due to the Wakefield 10k, senior debuts were given to bright youngsters Alex Stacey and Will Gascgoine.

Slaz started the brighter of the two sides and managed to create quite a few chances through Josh Hujwan and ""Mr Sunglasses"" Tom Hoyle in the forward line. After numerous short corner attempts, Slaz finally managed to open the scoring through a great strike from Simon Kendall. This was a deserved lead which the home team carried through to the break, however the first half was overshadowed after a terrible accident where Simon Kendall had to be taken to hospital after a ball struck him in the face.

Slaz looked to continue some of the similar style of hockey they played in the first half, however Slaz were on the back foot to start with as the away side came out more attacking. Slaz managed to whether the storm for a while until Steve Fealy managed to give away a penalty flick which was converted by Rotherhams young centre forward. Slaz knew they needed to score another goal to get the result their play deserved. They looked to push forward to create the opportunity but a fantastic Rotherham keeper kept them at bay. This was until Will Gascgoine put home a superb volley with 5 minutes to go. This was the goal that gave Slaz their first win since December. After a few nervous moments, the final whistle sounded and Slaz were celebrating a win after so long.

Man of the match went to Will Gascoigne for his great goal and good work in midfield. Honourable mentions also go to Alex Stacey who like Will adapted to senior hockey very quickly and shone from the first whistle. It was great to end the season on a high for a team who finally got a result they deserved and should be proud of.

Match Report

Slaz travelled to Rotherham on Saturday morning as they look to learn from their heavy defeat last time out.

Slaz started the game well and had a goal disallowed from a short corner inside two minutes. This meant Slaz were distracted as Rotherham went ahead from a short corner and doubled their lead from a flick. The home side then added a third to lead 3-0 at the break.

Slaz looked to step more onto the front foot in the second half and managed to create more chances. Slaz had plenty of opportunities through Tom Hyde and Peter Gunning and grabbed one back eventually through a Josh Hujwan penalty flick after a foot on the line. Slaz continued to push forward and Tom Hyde converted a great piece of play to put nerves in the home side for the last two minutes. Unfortunately Slaz couldn't find another goal to get a much deserved point away from home.

Man of the match went to Darren Bailey for some excellent defensive work.

Match Report

Slazenger 4th's first home game of season did not get off to a good start. By half time they where 3 nil down, with a penalty flick being conceded within 5 minutes of the game starting. With 10 minutes to go the team were still losing 4 -1.

However, the team rallied and their never say die attitude brought them back into the game, netting 3 times in the last 10 minutes. Goals came from James Walker, Dan Croxall, Andy fisher and Daniel Tiffany.

James Walker received Man of the Match accolades on his first game back.
