Match Report
The doors to the Slazenger Sweet Shop were open, and Adel 6s walked straight into a sugar rush they wouldn’t forget.
After two consecutive victories, Slazenger 3s were looking to make it three in a row. By the end of the afternoon, they’d produced an eight-goal confectionery feast, with Adel left wondering whether they’d accidentally ordered the wrong box of chocolates.
The match started with both sides taking their first bite of the action.
Slaz struck first early on with John running at the keeper with no defenders in sight before slipping the ball to Aleks who found himself staring at an open net. However, Adel responded just five minutes later to make it 1–1. The game was finely balanced, with neither side willing to give the other too much room in the sweet shop.
Then, just one minute before half-time, Scott produced a perfectly timed treat from the top of the D to put Slaz back in front.
If the first half was a gentle nibble, the second half was someone emptying the entire pick ‘n’ mix onto the floor.
Slaz came flying out of the blocks and scored four goals in just eight minutes.
First came Aleks, adding his second of the afternoon. Then Seth joined the party. Then Owen got his name on the wrapper. And finally, Aleks returned for his hat-trick, completing an outrageous eight-minute sugar rush. All 4 goals were a product of Slazengers smooth passing to work the ball forward before the youth of the team showed their speed and skill to beat the final men.
Suddenly, the scoreboard read: Slazenger 6–1 Adel
Adel managed to grab one back, briefly threatening to spoil the party but Slaz weren’t finished.
With ten minutes remaining, John found the net from a short to restore the five-goal advantage before Scott added his second in the final five minutes after getting on the end of a beautifully played pass from Aleks.
The sweet shop was officially sold out. A box full of goals
It was an attacking performance packed with different flavours for whatever was required to dismantle the Adel defence.
Man of the Match — John
There was only one choice for Man of the Match.
John put in a huge shift from start to finish, working tirelessly at both ends of the pitch.
He helped defend the Slazenger goal, chased down Adel attackers, battled for possession and then eventually made his way into the opposition circle to score.
From defending the Slazenger goal to scoring in the Adel goal, John was everywhere.
A true all-day sweet-shop employee.
Three wins. Fifteen goals. Two conceded.
The victory means Slazenger 3s have now won their last three matches in a row putting them 2nd in the league.
That’s a rather tasty run of form.
The Slazenger Sweet Shop is officially open for business — and judging by the last three results, nobody seems capable of eating into the profits.
Match Report
After recent cancellations due to the winter weather Slazenger 3’s started their recent game against Leeds Adel Carnegie rather sluggishly. That and the addition of a couple of new players, Aidan Hopkinson and Robin Whawell into the midfield, ensured that Slazengers struggled to gel as a unit initially and this encouraged the away team to take the initiative.
It was no surprise, if a little unfortunate, when they managed to score a scrappy goal at the far post, when the home defence failed to clear their lines.
The home team didn’t panic and continued to try and play their game, which slowly but surely they began to do.Luke Gueli drew the sides level when he squeezed the ball between the keeper and his post after a previous shot had only been deflected across the goalmouth.
It wasn’t long before Ste Roberts took the initiative with another pacy attack and deftly placed the ball into the corner of the goal whilst on the floor after loosing his footing. Despite taking the lead Slazengers still struggled to get a grasp on marking opponents when defending, due to the oppositions fairly fluid team formation. However, the home team went into the half-time break with the goal advantage.
Second half was just as tough for both teams. In a fairly end to end game Mark Kitchen and Tony Walker had to be at their best to fend off several attacks. Half back Alex Calderley had an outstanding game nullifying Adel’s attacking options down their right hand side.
The game was finally decided when captain Andy Fisher converted a short corner to give the home team a 2 goals cushion with 5 minutes to go.
Final score 3-1.
Match Report
Slazenger Men’s 3rd team took to the field for their first competitive fixture since their promotion last season to Division 6, with a dominant display away at Leeds Adel Carnegie 6th’s. While they came away with a commendable 3-0 result, without the hard work of the opposition keeper, it could have been 10.
With captain Andy Fisher out with a broken hand, the team had to begin the season without his help. However, this did not slow them down, as they began in the same way they had finished last season, with flowing hockey which immediately put the opposition under pressure. Just after the 4 minute mark, Luke Gueli had scored the opener, setting the standard for the rest of the game.
Slazenger reset after the goal and continued to press. A strong back line of Tony Walker, Paul Johnson, Alex Calderley and Mark Kitchen held firm, and keeper Ralph Toon had almost nothing to do all game.
Some solid running from midfield dynamo Ste Roberts, along with Jack Mumford and striker Steve Johnson led to the second goal; a rapid series of 4 passes splitting the defence, leaving Andy Birkett to slot the ball home.
After the break, the chances continued to come thick and fast. Within minutes, Alex Calderly’s shot had narrowly missed the mark, and excellent efforts from newcomer Dan levitt and Luke Gueli kept Carnegie under pressure. However, some solid goalkeeping from the home goalkeeper kept the scoreline at 2-0. L.A.Carnegie had several efforts against Slaz, but were unable to overcome some tenacious defence and solid counter-attacking.
In the latter part of the second half, it was Rowan Tejura, who single handedly rounded the keeper, to slot the ball home, making it 3-0
The scoreline is a promising start to what looks to be a promising campaign in division 6. Slaz travel to Brigg 4’s next week.
Match Report
Slazenger Mens 3rds got back to form just in time for the penultimate weekend of the season, with an impressive 5- 0 victory over Leeds Adel Carnegie. With three games to games to go, Slaz were looking to finish on a high. The game began at a quick tempo, with Slaz making a lot of movement, putting immediate pressure on L.A. Carnegie. The midfield worked well, with Lee Secker, Andy Fisher and Steve Johnson linking up well to push clear into the oppositions half. However a strong defensive line, and keeper kept Slazenger out of the game for a fair portion of the first half. Several attacking moves from Captain Paul Corney, and winger Tom Whitaker failed to make it past a keeper in good form.
The deadlock was broken when the Slaz forwards broke through, and forced a penalty corner. The ball was pushed out to Paul Johnson, who drilled the ball straight past the keeper, with no chance of stopping it. With the first goal in, Slaz pressed the advantage, and securing a further two. Ste Roberts took the second, and Lee Secker swiftly defeated the keeper to take the third. After the break, the game was a closer match, with L.A. attempting to level the score on several occasions. However, it was Slazenger who scored again through midfielder Andy Fisher with a great shot from just inside the D to take it to 4-0.
With 20 minutes remaining, Slaz scored their fifth and final goal to finish off the match. A quick passing move through the midfield dropped the ball to Isaac Fisher, who neatly dispatched it past the keeper. Next Week, Slazenger travel away to Scunthorpe.

Match Report
Slazenger Mens 3rd’s traveled away to Leeds Adel Carnegie at the weekend, and were unfortunate to come away with a 2-1 loss. This result is a blow to the teams promotion hopes. Slaz were looking for the full 3 points, and their start demonstrated the ambition. Some great passing and early pressure by Slazenger resulted in a great many chances. The midfield co-ordinated effectively, with Robin Brearton, Robin Whawell and Steve Johnson linking up well. Unfortunately, as has been common in the latter part of the season, Slaz struggled to capitalise and secure an opening goal. Captain Paul Corney, and Isaac Fisher both went close, but to no avail.
The initial pressure softened, and the remainder of the first half was end to end hockey, with pressure on at either end. Goalkeeper and Man of the match Giles ‘Fodder’ Field did an exemplary job, with some spectacular saves through the half, however in the end it was Leeds who scored first. The second half was again just as close, though for the first ten minutes, Slaz struggled to get out of their own half. Again some great defending from Nick Slack and Nathan Crowther maintained the single goal deficit. Slaz broke the pressure, and for the last 25 minutes, it was all them who controlled the match. After pressuring the oposition defence, a penalty corner was awarded, and Paul Johnson fired the ball home, to which the defence and keeper had no hope of stopping, drawing Slaz level. Slaz maintained the pressure, but in the latter part of the half, a break against the run of play allowed L.A. to secure the winner. Slazenger host Leeds at home next week (26th March) at 3pm
