Match Report
To say the Men's 1st team who assembled on Saturday was a bit rag tag, is an understatement. However, a bare 11 players assembled on the pitch, ready to go.
It was a steady start for the home side, with Chapeltown looking aggressive on the break. However some solid work from the back line, including an impressive Harry Firth, and returning from injury captain Ben Stevenson ably mopped up, and kept the game evenly balanced goalless. Slazenger sat deeper to absorb the pressure, and hit Chapeltown on the break. Robin Brearton and Man of the Match, Jordan Ingham was effective at finding gaps in the Chapeltown defence and winning penalty corners. Slaz converted two of these opportunities through Asad Baig's trademark penalty corner strikes.
Chapeltown were not going to go down without a fight, striking back with two of their own goals to keep the game deadlocked.
The second half was similarly closely matched. The makeshift midfield worked effectively, with Adam Fall, Dan Perry and Amir Khalil creating possession and attacking chances. Chapeltown continued to threaten and scored a third, as Slaz looked to be tiring. However, the game wasn't done yet. A well worked attacking move allows Ian Hedges to setup Adam Fall at the back post to equalise. Jordan Ingham continued to cause trouble, drawing fouls from Chapeltown, finally resulting in a Chapeltown yellow card. With a man advantage, Slaz continued to press and Danny Perry was able to score the winner.
The final minutes were a tense affair, with a flagging home side mounting a rear-guard action to keep out Chapeltown and secure the win. A well earned 3 points to kick off the season.
Match Report
Slaz Mens 1s hosted Chapeltown in their last home of the season with both sides having little left to play for.
Slaz started hot, putting together a slick passing move courtesy of Ben Jackson and Danny Perry, that Adam Fall coolly finished past the on-rushing keeper. Relentless Slaz pressure paid dividends, as Slaz added a further goal through an Emmett Fearn-manufactured assist for a Ben Jackson tap-in and further finishes from Jordan Ingham and Danny Perry.
Slaz went into the break 4-0 up and looking well in control of the game, leading to what was possibly the most moving half-time speech ever made by captain Ben Stevenson.
Unfortunately the speech didn't work, as Slaz ended up conceding 3 second half goals and left themselves with a nervy finish. Nevertheless, Slaz held out to win 4-3 and go into their final game of the season next week looking to finish on a high.

Slazenger tumble to last-gasp score
Slazenger battled their way back into this game after early setbacks only to be denied by a last gasp heart breaker. Chapeltown had stunned their hosts by twice taking full advantage of defensive slips to sweep into a two-goal lead. And despite clever approach play up front, the home side were unable to get back into it before half-time. But after the break Slazenger -boosted by the saves of ‘keeper Dave Hellam – stormed back to level matters. Strikes from J. Wiper and R. Tuddenham were just rewards for a fightback fashioned by the man of the match Simon Kaye. But they were left ruing missed chances when Chapeltown hit the winner two minutes from time.

Match Report
Slazenger were put firmly in their place by higher status hosts Chapeltown. But though out-played the Horbury side battled hard before succumbing to a three-goals salvo in the second half which extinguished all hope. The home side opened strongly and Slazenger came under heavy pressure. They resisted manfully but Chapeltown translated their growing authority into two well-taken goals.
The visitors did manage to steady their play and held Chapeltown to the break, but three more goals in the second half sealed the game before Andy Forman grabbed a consolation score. Despite their defeat, Slazenger remain optimistic for the start of campaign tomorrow (Saturday).
Match Report
Early worries about their first match of the season on Astroturf were quickly dispelled as Slazenger absorbed early pressure and matched Chapeltown in all phases of play. Excellent work in midfield by Martin Lofthouse and Paul Youds kept Slazenger in contention, while Graham Parker and goalkeeper Christian Oldroyd mopped up Chapeltown’s forward breaks
However, despite Slazenger’s all-round team effort, Chapeltown took the lead after following up from a short corner. But Slazenger stormed back to score twice in five minutes. Their first came from a well-worked drive down the right and Dominic Luck made no mistake from 10 meters out. This was shortly followed by a second score from Alec Gilston. However, a late push by Chapeltown produced an equaliser – much to Slazenger’s disappointment.
Match Report
Slazenger won their last home match of the season with a workmanlike performance which was enough to dispose of their South Yorkshire opponents. The Horbury side had the bulk of the possession in the first half, when Martin Lofthouse setup several promising moves – catching the Chapeltown defence flat-footed. The game remained goalless until early in the second half when Tim Taylor was the first to reach a rebound off the goalkeeper’s pads and neatly put away a reverse stick shot. Prompted by good work down the left from Mark Swallow and Graham White, Slazenger continued to press and were rewarded a Simon Chamberlain wriggled through the defence to shoot under the keeper.
The only alarm for Slazenger was when they conceded a penalty stroke five minutes from time, but Steve Connelly made a tremendous diving save to keep a clean sheet. Graham Parker was awarded the “thorn in the side” award by Chapeltown after the match. Slazenger will be playing in the Easter Festival at Bridlington this weekend before their final match away at Wigan on April 25th.
