Match Report
Slaz men's 1s travelled to Driffield for their first away game for the season with a depleted side but hopes of keeping their perfect start to the new campaign in tact.
Despite going 1-0 down earlier, Slaz rallied well and stuck to their counter-attacking plan well throughout the first-half, with Jordan Ingham battling well to win a penalty corner that was calmly scored by Asad Baig. Slaz went into the break deservedly level.
And many of the same patterns of play were evident throughout the second half, where Slaz once again defended staunchly and tried to make the most of opportunities on the counter. Unfortunately, it would not prove to be their day, as Driffield converted a short corner opportunity and Slaz spurned a number of good chances.
The final result was 2-1 to Driffield, but there were positive signs that Slaz were so competitive despite so many players missing.

Match Report
On the back of a disappointing result against Boston Spa, Slaz Men's 1s hosted Driffield with hopes of getting the season back on track heading into the final few games of the year. Slaz started strong, building a number of good attacks and taking a 2-0 lead into half-time, with goals from Emmett Fearn and Danny Perry.
In the second half, Slaz built on this pressure and got the all important third goal, effectively putting the game to bed. Further pressure came from Slaz, who built a convincing 6-0 lead through a couple of fortuitous breaks. Unfortunately, a lack of control of the game in the final passages from goalkeeper Andy Loftus saw him losing his clean sheet as the final score read 6-1 to Slazenger.
Tougher tests will arise in weeks to come, but this was a professional performance from Slazenger and a deserved win.
Match Report
Slazenger Men’s 1s made the long trip to Driffield and delivered a commanding performance despite key absences. The return of captain Ben Stevenson—fresh from his wedding—added a timely boost, and the squad responded with intensity from the first whistle.
Slazenger struck early as Jordan Ingham opened the scoring with an athletic volley that set the tone. Moments later, Mark Swinden produced a moment of brilliance, rifling the ball into the roof of the net from an outrageous angle. Ollie Leonard added a composed finish before halftime, giving Slazenger a strong 3–0 lead at the break.
The visitors pushed to extend their momentum, perhaps too eagerly, allowing Driffield to claw back two goals in quick succession. With the game tightening, stern leadership from Stevenson and other senior players refocused the team.
From there, Slazenger reasserted control. Adam Fall danced through three defenders to guide the ball into the net, restoring breathing room. Asad Baig then sealed the result in trademark fashion, converting two short corners with the clean, powerful strikes the squad has come to rely on. (Incidentally these are his 199 and 200th club goals, making an impressive milestone)
A professional and spirited display from Slazenger, marked by flair, resilience, and a deserved victory on the road.
Match Report
The men's 1st's hosted mid table side Driffield for their Yorkshire Division 1 clash on Saturday. While Slaz sat several places above the visitors, it was Driffield who started on the front foot, scoring in the opening minutes to put Slaz off balance. However, the home side stayed composed and continued to grow into the match. This gave Danny Perry the chance to convert a penalty corner to take the sides level. Ben Jackson then beat several players to hammer the ball in at the back post in what he claims to be a contender for goal of the season. However, in the final seconds of the first half, Driffield took advantage of confusion at the back to level as the half time whistle went.
The second half was more of the same two way hockey which had dominated the first. Both sides had good chances, but it was Slaz this time who pulled ahead, with Chris Gascoigne scoring. But it was not to be the home sides day, as Driffield again equalised in the closing minutes to take a share of the points. Slaz will look to get back to winning ways at Halifax next week, as they stay in contention for the league title.
Match Report

Match Report
A big game for Slazenger 1s as they travelled away to play a top-of-the-table Driffield side who had gone unbeaten through their first four games of the season.
Slaz started strong, building steadily from the back and looking comfortable in possession. Such was their dominance in the early passages of play that they mounted a 2-0 lead; a flowing move finished confidently by Ben Jackson was followed by a well-taken penalty corner between Danny Perry and Simon Chamberlain. However, as a result of a late - and improbable — penalty corner being awarded to the home side, Slaz went into the half-time break with their lead undeservingly reduced to 2-1.
The youthful Slazenger backline stayed resolute throughout the second half, despite umpiring decisions not quite falling their way. Slaz retained a fair share of the chances but were unable to score a second half-goal despite relentless running from Jordan Ingham up top. Disappointingly, Driffield eventually got the better of the Slazenger defence late in the game thanks to a breakaway attack and an unfortunate own goal.
A confident and assured performance from Slaz deserved greater reward, but will hopefully serve as a good platform for upcoming fixtures. Final result; 3-2 to Driffield.

Match Report
Slazengers mens first team faced high flyers Driffield and came away on the wrong side of a 7-2 scoreline. As is so often the case this season, Slazengers found themselves 2-0 after barely 10 minutes and had only themselves to blame with both goals coming as a result of defensive errors. Slazengers pulled one back though with Paul Wiper scoring an excellent individual goal, beating a number of defenders before slotting under the keeper.
Driffield continued to press and scored again before Ben Grahams short corner strike deflected off a couple of defenders before finding its way in. Driffield scored their fourth just before the break to make it 4-2 at half time although Slazengers had more then competed after the initial 10 minutes.
The second half was mixed with Slazengers playing well to begin with but Driffield eventually began to control possession and with the Slazengers players tiring, Driffield were able to exploit gaps in the defence to make the score line emphatic in their favour.
Man of the match for Slazengers was captain Will Buckley. Slazengers will need a successful second half of the season if they are to avoid relegation but will take confidence in recent improved performances.
Match Report
Slazengers mens first XI travelled to Driffield for their first league game of the campaign only to see the game descend into an almost farcical situation. Having travelled with only 11 players after a player had pulled out on Saturday morning, they soon found themselves down to 10 after Jonny White was injured in the first 5 minutes of the game. This was compounded by the fact that captain Will Buckley pulled a hamstring mid way through the first half leaving Slaz with only 9 fit players. This told throughout the half and although Slaz battled well, they found themselves 3-0 down at the break although 2 of these goals could easily have been avoided as they were results of defensive errors.
The second half began with Slazengers attempting to find some pride and soon pulled one back with Ben Graham converting Phil Midgleys excellent ball. Driffield soon added another only for Paul Wiper to convert a short corner to give Slazengers a bit of hope. This was short lived however after Wiper was sent off following a difference of opinion with the umpire. Almost laughably, Slazengers lost their third player to injury, John Sykes catching a fierce shot on the elbow and with Wiper left on the sidelines to the end of the game, Slazengers found themselves down to just 6 fit outfield players with the best part of 20 minutes left to play. The lack of numbers told and Driffield ran in a further 4 goals to end up 8-2 winners although without
the efforts of man of the match James Walker in goal, this could have been a lot worse.
With no league game next week, Slazengers will hope that Sundays cup game against Leeds will give them chance to rest some of their injured players with a hope to getting back to full strength the following week.

Match Report
Slazenger go into the Christmas lay-off on a high after securing a hard-earned league point at Driffield. Slazenger were unable to dominate the midfield as they prefer and had to be content with playing the game inside their own half. Yet with astute ‘keeping from George Hutchins and Wheatley and Forde coping well in the aerial attacks, Slazenger looked comfortable in defence and unlikely to be broken.
Driffield produced few attacking ideas in the second period and by the end of the match Slazenger were beginning to get on top. Right back Parker combined well with inner Mike Walton throughout the game and together they produced a last-minute chance for Tim Taylor, who narrowly missed the target.
