Slaz mens ones hosted Boston Spa in their second home game of the season, once again missing a number of players but hoping to bounce back from a poor result in their last fixture.

And Slaz got off to a good start, holding possession well and building a solid foundation, despite being unable to take any chances in the early offings. Despite a setback to go 1-0 down, Ben Jackson won a handy short corner that was coolly taken by Keith Leonard to tie the game up leading into the half time interval.

Slaz then remained solid throughout the second half, providing consistent pressure but without creating too many options, until Ben Jackson cracked a sumptuous ball across the D that Isaac Fisher got on the end of. Unfortunately for Slaz, the game zig-zagged from there, with Boston Spa pulling a goal back shortly eafter, only for Slaz to retake the lead through Isaac Fisher close to the end.

Slaz once again couldn't hold on to this lead however, and Boston Spa scored again for the game to finish a deserved 3-3.

After going a few Saturdays without a game, Slaz Mens 1s returned to action with a rearranged fixture against Boston Spa.

And, despite the time out, Slaz started strongly, notching a quick lead when a flowing passing move was coolly finished off by Danny Perry. And Slaz looked to build on this lead over a fraught first half, applying consistent pressure that eventually resulted in a well-taken Asad Baig goal from a short corner.

However, despite taking a two nil lead and dominating much of the ball, Slaz couldn't make their second-half pressure pay and conceded two goals of their own. Goalkeeper Andy Loftus made plenty of good saves in a self-anointed man of the match winning performance, but Slazenger couldn't reward those saves with goals at the other end.

Therefore, a tumultuous game ended 2-2 with honours shared between the two sides and leaving Slaz with plenty to think on before next week.

Slazenger Men’s 1st Team made the short trip to Boston Spa for an early pushback on Saturday, missing a handful of key players but full of intent after recent strong performances. The visitors started brightly, settling quickly into their rhythm despite the reshuffled line-up. Their early pressure paid off when Emmett Fearn opened the scoring with a stunning individual effort — a thunderous strike that set the tone for what promised to be an entertaining contest.

However, Boston Spa’s midfield soon began to dictate play, their pace and physicality proving difficult to contain. In a punishing spell, the hosts scored three quick goals to take control of the match. Slazenger refused to roll over, and in-form forward Jordan Ingham continued his hot streak in front of goal, netting an impressive hat-trick to keep his side in contention. Despite his efforts, Boston Spa’s relentless attacking play eventually told, as they added to their tally to seal a 7–4 victory.

There were positives to take for Slazenger — not least the promising debut of young Owen Coughtrey, who slotted in confidently and looked right at home at this level. A tough result on the road, but plenty of fight and spirit shown from a side missing key personnel. Slaz will look to bounce back next week as they continue to build on the positives.

The Men's 1st team entered the final game of the season - a home tie against Boston Spa - with the stakes crystal clear. Whilst neither promotion nor relegation were a possibility heading into the final game; the Slaz Men’s Top Dogs trophy was anyone’s for the taking. As such, a win was vital. And, in warm weather, Slaz looked every bit up to the challenge. Having completed their most accomplished-looking warmup of the season at the final time of asking, Slaz took an early lead through a Chris Gascoigne strike.

Further pressure built from Slaz, leading to a number of short corners gained. Despite big talk on the lead-in to the game, defensive stalwart Adam Drake approached his potentially first-ever short corner strike with timidness that led him to fluff his lines whilst trying to stop the ball and wasting a great chance. His unique self-affirmations words only led him to gain a green card and a well-deserved sit down on the sidelines.

However, it was at another short corner that Slazenger showed their talents, with a quality strike from Chris Gascoigne striking the bar and falling to Jordan Ingham at what he’s calling “top D”. Such has been their lack of acquaintance this season that you'd be forgiven for thinking the striker wouldn't know where the goal was, but his - what he’s calling “vicious” - reverse stick strike into what he suggests was the “top corner” finally ended a season-long drought. Another goal from Danny Perry had Slaz 3-0 before the interval until Boston Spa clawed a goal back from a well-taken drag-flick just before the break.

Slaz started the second period slowly and were camped in their half for large swathes of the opening ten minutes, until a well-timed tackle and blistering run from Jordan Ingham resulted in a flick and what was, shockingly, both his second goal of the day and the season as a whole. Further pressure from Slaz resulted in them gaining another flick, this time won by midfield dynamo Adam Fall, but unfortunately missed by young Ollie Leonard. Nevertheless, only ten minutes later, a good Slaz move was finished well by Chris Gascoigne on his reverse side to take Slaz to five goals for the day and ensure their spot as top dogs for another season.

Boston Spa finished the game with a couple of late goals for the match to finish 5-3 to Slaz, a score line that doesn’t reflect their relative comfort throughout.

Overall, Slaz have performed well over the season and finished in a strong fifth position in the league, leaving them well poised to hopefully build towards a promotion charge next year.

In a frustrating encounter, Slazenger found themselves on the end of a 2-1 defeat after dominating the majority of the game. Boston Spa went ahead in the early minutes of the game, and it remained that way until the closing minutes of the game.

Slazenger dominated possession, but struggled to convert their possession. In the closing minutes, Slazenger converted a short corner; Tommy Randle completed an impressive flick to beat the keeper. However, the joy was short lived, as Boston Spa scored a winner minutes later to keep the points.

Slazenger firsts maintained their position at the top of Yorkshire League 2 with an entertaining win over lacklustre Boston Spa.

Slazenger entered into their dominant stride early in the first half pressurising the Spa defence into conceding two first half flicks converted somewhat luckily by leading scorer Mark Buttle.

Boston succumbed to further pressure after Simon Chamberlain finished another well worked counter attack.

Slazenger fitness told in the second half as they dominated play and created several further chances with man of the match Nick Webb converting two of them to round off another polished performance.

On Saturday, Slazenger travel to Chapeltown start 2pm.
