Match Report
A depleted Slaz 1s travelled to Huddersfield Dragons away with hopes of building a bit of momentum into what was always going to be a tricky part of the season for them with absentees. Unfortunately, Slaz started slowly and failed to take advantage of a number of good chances in front of goal. Before long, opposition pressure took a hold and Slaz fell 1-0 down from a penalty corner.
Slaz struggled to make good use of the ball for the rest of the half and went into the break 1-0 down. Then, things went from bad to worse as Slaz once again conceded - only minutes after the break - to make it 2-0. Despite their situation, Slaz rallied and built good pressure, finally stringing some good counter-attacks together, and Asad Baig converted a penalty corner to make it 2-1.
Unfortunately, it proved too little, too late and Slaz were unable to make the comeback. This was a tough day out for Slaz, who will be bitterly disappointed to lose to a local rival. However, with important players missing for a number of weeks to come, there will be plenty of chances to avenge this loss.
Match Report
Slaz Mens 1s aimed to follow up their first win of the season against Scarborough with a second this week as they faced local rivals Huddersfield. Slazengers took control from the very start, building pressure early and making it count with a powerful strike by Asad Baig from a penalty corner. A second goal followed soon after as Slaz won a penalty flick, keenly scored by the returning Danny Perry.
Throughout the first half, Slaz maintained an effective press and fashioned good opportunities from winning the ball back high up the pitch. A third goal came from one such press, with Slaz winning the ball up high, Adam Fall jinking in the D and superbly setting up Jordan Ingham for what is his second – and surely final – goal of the season. After entering the halftime break at 3-0, Slaz struggled to maintain flowing hockey in the second period, but remained defensively resolute and shut up shop effectively. A largely eventless second half will be welcomed by Slaz, with their second 3-0 in two weeks vaulting goalkeeper Andy Loftus up the clean sheet charts as he looks to defend his title.
Special mentions go to man of the match Jordan Ingham and full-time left back / part time Bob Ross enthusiast Emmett Fearn, who ran tirelessly and showcased his silky stick skills throughout. Tougher tests will come for Slaz this season, but three more points for them provide a great platform to build upon next week as they travel to Boston Spa.
Match Report
Slaz Men’s 1s made the short trip away to Huddersfield Dragons with the hopes of completing the league double over their local rivals and recovering from a poor loss the week before.
However, within moments of the game beginning, Slaz found themselves on the back foot, having fallen foul of Huddersfield’s long ball ploy. 1-0 down within five minutes, Slaz were on the ropes and had to go back to playing simple hockey. Sure enough, this paid dividends quickly. A short, sharp passing move gained territory quickly and had Slaz moving up the pitch in a flowing fashion. A brilliant move was capped off by striker Danny Perry - who found his stick much lighter and more manoeuvrable having shedded a sticker from it pre-game - and immediately, the complexion of the game changed.
Having grasped momentum, Slaz started to enforce themselves. Free-flowing hockey from rampaging left-back Emmett Fearn and midfield dynamo Mark Swinden - referred to by the opposition as “the old one in the middle” - helped maintain Slaz’s tempo and create chances. Sure enough, Jermane Cockerell changed the game from the bench as he made the most of a penalty corner drag-flick to put Slaz up 2-1 before half time.
And, in the second half, the patterns of play established in the first period continued. Huddersfield continued to play a more direct game whilst Slaz struggled to remain patient in their passing moves. Despite this, Slaz just had too much skill and guile for their opposition, especially Amar Khalil and Ben Jackson on the wings, who gave their opposing defenders trouble all game long.
Slazenger continued to fashion chances and a back post flick for “The Old One in the Middle” finally put the game to bed at 3-1. A late goal for Adam Fall - tireless in midfield and deserving of the finish - capped off an at-time laboured, but ultimately deserved win.
The Man of the Match award went to Jordan Ingham who - despite his well documented struggles figuring out where the goal is this season - showed skill, industry and selflessness throughout the game to fashion quality chances for the rest of his forward line.
Slaz will take momentum from this 4-1 victory - which leaves them fourth in the table with two games in hand - into next week, with high hopes that it might propel them further up the table still.
Match Report
Slazenger Men’s 1s hosted a local rival of Huddersfield dragons with hopes of a positive day. Slaz started strong by controlling the tempo and causing some damage down the wings, the first goal came in the first 10 minutes from a great deflection from Isaac Fisher, then not long after Asad Baig’s shot hit the keepers pads and lofted over into the goal to make it 2-0.
Slaz went into the second half with a thirst for more but unfortunately gave away a flick not long in, which Huddersfield finished to put them back in the game. Slazenger pushed for more and finally capitalised from a great team goal put away by Mark Swinden. Huddersfield then score another to make it 3-2 and that’s how it finished after a few missed short corners from Slazenger.

Match Report
The firsts had a point to prove last week on their return post Christmas break. When they last played Huddersfield at their place Slazenger never really showed up. After 5 minutes of this return fixture they were one goal up! An anomaly for the firsts who normally seem to like giving the opposition a 2 goal start. The Slazenger pace and ball distribution were really standing out. Huddersfield simply had no way to contain the repeated attacks that were coming from all areas of the pitch in a great team display. New Year, New Firsts?
Well it would seem so, at half time Slazenger were 4 goals ahead courtesy of Swindon, Perry and Tuddenham. However with the injury exit of key defender Birkett Huddersfield were starting to creep back in.
By 15 minutes into the second half Huddersfield had pulled the score-line back to 3-4 and were pressing with everything they had. Slazenger had to pull something out to turn the tide, and pull something out they did. A fantastic break away attack from Swindon to Gunning and a great strike to finish from Perry. As the crowd burst into rapturous applause, Slazenger went back on the front foot. More goals were to follow for both teams but Slazenger finished in real style out-Gunning their local rivals 8 - 5 thanks to no less then 5 goals from Tuddenham.
Match Report
It was no Game of Thrones for the firsts away to Huddersfield Dragons last Saturday. It was clear from the start Slazenger looked disinterested, flat footed in attack and sedate in defence. Dragons in contrast looked lively and committed taking just minutes to fire their first goal in.
This was soon to be followed by a couple more as Slazenger’s cavalier attitude to the game persisted. Tuddenham managed to pull one goal back in a marginally improved second half. However it was only thanks to a royal performance from keeper Loftus that the score line was kept from slipping further. Final result 1 – 4.
