Match Report

Slaz mens ones embarked on what is typically a difficult fixture for them, away at Halifax.

Sporting a new formation, Slaz started strong, defending narrow and attacking wide. They built a number of good attacks through Ben Jackson, Jordan Ingham and Amir Khalil. However, despite winning a number of short corners Slaz struggled to profit.

Then, Slaz's pressure finally paid off as Amir Khalil waltzed through the opposition defence and played a pass to Isaac Fisher that he couldn't miss.

After taking the lead in the first half, Halifax built sustained pressure and created a number of half-chances. However keeper Andy Loftus, with the helping hand of a goal-line clearance from Isaac Fisher, was resolute in keeping his first clean sheet of the season.

The game finished 1-0 to Slaz, who will hope to take lots of positives from the game into the rest of the season.

Match Report

Slaz Mens 1s hosted Halifax for their first home game of 2026. Starting strongly, Slaz built up pressure by winning a number of short corners before Asad Baig converted one to make it 1-0. Slaz continued to show good patience against a low block throughout the first half, but conceded to a defensive error to make it 1-1 going into the break.

The setback proved troublesome for Slaz, who were increasingly stifled throughout the second half and struggled to put together flowing team moves. Despite winning a number of short corners, big chances were missed and it looked like the game was headed for a draw. A few minutes out from the final whistle, however, Adam Fall took a quick free hit, dribbled past a few men and calmly lifted a big chance over the Halifax keeper to make it 2-1 to Slaz in the dying minutes.

Capped off with a neatly taken drag flick from Keith Leonard on the final whistle, Slaz battled to a hard-earned 3-1 draw to give them back-to-back wins. They will hope to take that momentum into next week when they travel away to local rivals Huddersfield.

Match Report

Slaz Mens 1s travelled to Halifax for their first away game of the season with hopes of building on a good performance in the first game of the year, this time in torrential conditions. However, the game got off to the worst possible start when a couple of late Slazenger arrivals meant starting with a makeshift eleven.

Unfortunately, an early goal for Halifax followed, who took advantage of Slazengers' disorganisation to gain an early flick from a short corner. However, Slaz grew into the game and quality play from Jimmy Swinden up top created an opportunity for Adam Fall to equalise, which he did with aplomb.

Much of the first half followed this same pattern, with Halifax sitting off and allowing Slaz safe possession at in their own half. Again, Halifax took the lead through a defensive error, but Slaz came back one more with a blistering strike from practically top D by Jack Sumner - starting his first game for the men's 1s - on the stroke of half time. Slaz looked good for the 2-2 scoreline at half-time and hopes were high in the second half.

Despite continuing to hold large swathes of possession in the second half, it was telling that Slaz struggled to make it pay. A failure to convert from a litany of chances left Slaz as victims to chance when Halifax scored yet another breakaway goal towards the close of the game.

The scoreline finished 3-2 to Halifax, but this was once again a solid Slazenger performance that should breed confidence that positive results will soon come. After a week off next week, they will hope for a better scoreline when they travel to the sunny seaside for Scarborough away the week after.

Match Report

In a fiercely contested match at Halifax, the Slazengers secured a narrow 2-1 victory in challenging windy conditions. The game pushed off with both teams displaying tenacity, but it was Halifax who struck first, with a well-placed shot by their forward in the 15th minute. Slazenger responded with determination, pushing forward and creating several scoring opportunities. But could not make the most of them in the first half. Making it 1-0 at half time.

The second half saw both teams battling not only each other but also the strong winds that played a significant role in the match. Slazengers made the most of the advantage of playing with the wind and after a swift counterattack led to a deft finish by their captain Isaac Fisher.

Despite Halifax's relentless pressure in the closing minutes, the Slazengers held firm, showcasing strong defensive play and resilience. And managed to capitalise on another chance squared by Danny Perry for an easy finish from Chris Gascoigne. The final whistle confirmed a hard-fought 2-1 victory for the Slazengers, who celebrated their win amidst challenging weather conditions. The win solidifies Slazangers position as league contenders, only 1 win behind the league leaders.

Match Report

After a significant win last weekend. Slazenger looked to host Halifax 1sts for their first home game of the season. Missing a couple of key players, the team set to work looking for another 3 points.

Halifax were a strong side and attacked at pace. Slaz took the lead through Asad Baig's powerful short corner strike, which settled nerves for the side early on. However, the home side struggled to convert further pressure into more goals. Halifax equalised and in the last minutes of the game scored a winner to take the points. The firsts go looking for more points next week at Leeds Hockey Club.

Match Report

The first team rounded the season off with a thoroughly un-emphatic two-a-piece draw against Halifax young farmers last weekend. The game got off to slow start, then got slower, not too much else to mention really.

Loftus played ok in the net, Will Gascoigne continued his positive progression, Drake and Birkett were terrible. Still, it’s the end of season dinner in two weeks so that’s good.

Match Report

The men's first hosted mid table rivals and premier league regulars Halifax firsts for a well contested game, for which the home side came out top. However, it was far from plain sailing. The visitors looked to make an impression in the early encounters, and with some fast flowing hockey, soon found themselves two goals to the good. Slaz responded and pulled a goal back through Jimmy Swinden, however Halifax scored again to keep the deficit at 2 goals going into the break.

In the second half, the home side rallied after a customary half time hair-dryer team talk. Richard Tuddenham was back to form infront of goal, but had 2 goals dissallowed in early exchanges. With a renewed vigour about the side, and sensing more goals in the offing, Slaz continued to press. Goals came in regular intervals, through Danny Perry and 3 from Tuddenham. Final score Halifax 3, Slazenger 5.

Match Report

The men’s first team travelled to Halifax on Saturday. As the squad climbed the 100 steps up the hill to the pitch, the grey freezing fog descended, a sign of things to come? Halifax are familiar rival to Slazenger; their direct long ball hockey whilst old fashioned can be effective, and after 15 minutes the first team were 3 goals down.

Towards the end of the first half the momentum swung well and truly into the Slazenger court with goals from Tuddenham and Swindon, the fight was on! By early into the second half a nifty deflection from Stacey levelled the game at 4 a-piece only for the goal to be disallowed, Slazenger took this on the chin, no strangers themselves to the home advantage. The men’s firsts held the pressure and came close a couple more times, but when Tuddenham was sent off for questioning the umpires decision the Slazenger fight back was subdued. The final result was Slazenger 3 Halifax 6.

Match Report

Halifax put the pressure on as they were top of league. They were physical, forced play and slaz began to make mistakes.

Halifax broke through the D and rocketed a vertical reverse stick into the top of the net. Slaz kept going and looked deadly when breaking on the Halifax high press. man of match Dan perry tore the Halifax defence apart for Richard Tuddenham to gain chances and free shots from short corners. The game was gripping end to end stuff for the spectators, and a exciting open one.

Both teams were looking for the next goal as both knew they wouldn’t be able to sit back on their lead when they had it. All the Slaz players had a great game. Richard Tuddenham got 3, Dan Perry got one and Mark Swindon got the last. The final 5 min saw Halifax equalise and Slaz get the final goal on the break to win.

Match Report

Slaz were under a lot of pressure from the top of league team but seemed to handle it well for most of the game. Slaz created some good chances but were unable to capitalise. Dan Perry made good runs and stud up to a physical side well and never gave up. Richard Tuddenham scored the only goal from a nice short corner routine.

At the other end of the pitch Tom Murray had a great debut making some great saves to keep Slaz in with a chance for the whole 1st half. But 10 min into the 2nd half Halifax got 2 break through goals to make a comeback unlikely. Slaz pushed the Halifax defence and created so good chance that could have turned the game again. Match Report

Slazenger returned to winning ways with a well-deserved win over strong visitors Halifax.

Unlike recent weeks, Slazenger started well and took an early lead when Mark Swinden fired a superb shot into the roof of the net.

The hosts continued press but were caught on the break as Halifax drew level.

Undeterred, Slazenger pushed on, employing stick passing in midfield didn’t score again until the second half.

Mike Thornecroft produced a sensational strike to send Slazenger 2-1 up but Halifax hit back again.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw as the Halifax keeper repeatedly thwarted the Slazenger fourths. But the pressure eventually paid off when Webb fired home Slazenger’s third and decisive goal.

Match Report

Slazenger’s team, already depleted by injury and illness, had to play much of the game with just ten men following the dismissal of Windler and it proved too great a hurdle to overcome at Halifax.

The match started off at a fast pace with both teams creating chances.

Both Butel and Windler went close for the visitors following some slick passing. But the harsh dismissal of Windler, compounded by a Halifax goal, left Slazenger with an uphill task.

The visitors held firm and. in the second half, drew level when Butel found the back of the net to pull Slazenger right back in the game.

The game was now a struggle for the Wakefield-based side and despite some stubborn defending and fine goal-keeping by Dave Hellam, the pressure proved too much and Halifax edged into the lead.

This seemed to spur Slazenger on and they forced the host onto the back foot, searching for the equaliser.

Whittle almost made it 2-2 but he put his shot over the bar and although the visitors continued to exert pressure on the home side they could not break them down.

This Saturday, Slazenger entertain Sheffield Bankers in the North Eastern Division 2. 1:30am start.

Match Report

Slazenger kick off their East Pennine League Division 2 campaign with a disappointing result on home turf.

Slazenger started off well enough but were unfortunate to concede a goal just before half time when they should have been 2-0 up.

The hosts added a second to their tally within minutes of the second half re-start, but Halifax built up the pressure sufficiently to level.

And as Slazenger’s frustrations mounted two players were send off leaving nine players to hold out for the draw.

It was never likely to happen and Slazenger conceded two more in quick succession and a late brace left the home side facing a four goal margin of defeat.

Slazenger travel to Sheffield Bankers on Saturday, push back 1:30pm.

Match Report

Neither side was able to establish control of a game played at frantic pace. However, both sides created scoring chances. Batty made the breakthrough for Slazenger in the first half as he netted with a solid strike from the top of the circle. Halifax were frequently thwarted by saving tackles from sweeper Wood, but eventually the pressure told and they grabbed two late goals. Despite the result, Slazenger could feel well satisfied with their start to the season and look forward the coming league games with confidence.
