Match Report
Slaz Mens 1s hosted Brigg on a wet saturday, hoping to build off a good win and clean sheet away the week prior.
And from the off, Slaz looked bright, building a number of good attacks through striker Jordan Ingham. After what he claimed counted as his goal (it was definitely an own goal) - Slaz took an early lead but failed to build on it.
And it would take a whole half before they managed to finally score another goal, this time with Ingham scoring a second after a good move with Amir Khalil. A smart first time finish from Ollie Leonard rounded off the scoring for the game and, in a stunning turn of events, Slaz kept out the opposition to ensure keeper Andy Loftus kept an unlikely second clean sheet in a row.
Slaz will have harder tests over the coming weeks, but can be happy with a handy 3-0 win and another clean sheet for Lofty.

Match Report
Slaz had a few key players missing, but gelled very well together, playing better hockey than they have for weeks against a team 2 divisions higher in the semi-final of the cup. It was close all the way through and there was never more than one goal in it.
Slaz never gave up and had great fluid play with the ball. Brigg were on the back foot much of the game even though they were ahead by a goal for half the game. Although losing the slaz side all enjoyed their Sunday game, and look forward to next week.

Match Report
First half blunders accounted for Slazenger finding themselves 2-0 behind on the half-hour which prompted an all-out hunt for goals. The situation meant Slazenger had to drop any pretence of creative play in favour of the direct approach, and although they came close it was not quite close enough.
Charging runs from J Forde and M Lofthouse down the left gave Gilston and P Youds chances they put away majestically. On equal terms, Slazenger played their best hockey match, but committed to the win found themselves open at the back and a goal in appears as late as the last minute.
Match Report
Slazenger goal machine Alec Gilston scored his second hat-trick of the season to settle this away fixture against a lively Brigg side. Slazenger opened the scoring with a fierce short corner strike, but Brigg equalised minutes later when a rapid break caught the defence flat-footed.
Brigg then took the lead with a penalty flick. Slazenger continued with possession hockey and it finally reaped rewards, a Chamberlain shot rebounding for Gilston to strike home from close range. With minutes left a penetrating run from Birkett released Chamberlain who provided a pin-point cross for Gilston to secure his hat-trick and the game for Slazenger.
Match Report
Relegation threatened Slazenger prised three priceless points from high-flying Brigg in division 2 of the Mowlem Northern Yorkshire League. Success was borne out of team work – a willingness to work for each other and the ability to cash in on a string of excellent chances. And it hoisted them off the bottom of the table above Bradford University and Huddersfield ICI.
Brigg had boasted one of the best defensive records in the division before Saturday’s encounter but were torn apart by a lively Slazenger forward line, supplemented by industrious midfielder Martin Lofthouse. The Horbury side went ahead after five minutes when Simon Miller drilled the ball home from a quickly taken free hit outside the circle.
Alec Gilston made it 2-0 before half time after pouncing on a momentary slip in the Brigg defence. He cracked the ball on the half-volley into the top corner. Slazenger continued to press in the second half spurred on by skipper Geoff Birkett and they hit a third goal when Simon Chamberlain coolly slotted the ball home from a well-rehearsed short corner routine. Gilston completed the Slazenger scoring with a solo run from the 25-yard line after holding off two defenders and beating the goalkeeper with a low shot. Brigg gained the consolation of a penalty stroke award when Connelly sat on the ball but they were never allowed to get back into the game. Slazenger now need points from their final game – away at Thirsk to ensure their survival.
