Match Report

Slaz Mens 1s took the long trip to Ilkley to play Ben Rhydding with hopes that they could climb the table into the top 2. And Slaz got off to a rough start when a number of players failed to reach the pushback in team, leading them to start the game with a put-together starting formation.

Nevertheless, Slaz remained tight at the back and looked for opportunities on the counter, but going into the interval, neither team managed to break the deadlock despite good chances for Ollie Leonard and Mark Swinden.

The second half started much the same way, with Slaz defending deep and looking for chances on the counter. Unfortunately, a number of cheap green cards meant that Slaz found themselves a man down at crucial times in the game and their resistance was eventually broken. After conceding from a penalty corner and then again from a breakaway, Slaz looked likely to lose 2-0.

A late rally found a flurry of Slaz chances, with Asad Baig converting from a short corner, but a second goal went begging. It was a tough game for Slaz but there were also plenty of positives to take into the second quarter of the season after next week's slip week.

Man of the match once again went to Harry Firth, who looks every bit a first team player and growing in confidence week on week.

Match Report

Last weekend was one of those weekends that the more mature first team players really look forward to – the two game weekend… and to be honest it couldn’t have started much worse for either vintage or younger players!

The first game of the double was at home on Saturday to Ben Rhydding; a young side with potential that belies their current low position in the league. Certainly not a team to start complacently against. Nevertheless it’s fair to say Slazenger started the game more like a toy train than a steam train. Slazenger seemed oddly determined to run the ball time and time again straight into Ben Rhydding sticks. When halftime finally rolled round the dismal performance had resulted in a 2 -1 scoreline and potential for either team to take the match. Slazenger clearly had words with themselves during the mid-match break. The short sharp passing that greeted the home crowd at the start of the second half was nothing short of Brazilian. This new style soon began to pay off in goals as Slazenger well and truly stamped their authority on the match. A double hatrick from man of the match Tuddenham put the game beyond reach and helped to rack up a final score of 8 – 1 to Slazenger. (Other scorers Jimmy Swinden and Matthew Chilton)

Match Report

Slazenger Men’s Firsts were away at Ben Ridding last week and were missing the defensive prowess of Wiper dropped to the seconds for insubordination.

Despite only being given 5 minutes of pitch time to warm up Slazenger came out strong against the North Leeds team and It was clear early on that the game was going to be one sided. By half time the Firsts were a head by five with goals from Swindon (2), Perry, Tuddenham (2), Gunning and Fisher, and they were talking about maintaining the clean sheet.

With Birkett off injured the second half was a more sedate affair, however Gascoigne found a chance to open his score card for the Firsts in style. The final result was 8 – 0.

Match Report

This weekend the firsts took on a recent opposition in Ben Rhydding. This game was a feisty and bitty game from the outset, but one that in the first 20 minutes never looked like losing after a commanding beginning and a healthy 2-0 lead.

A lull of complacency then took over the team allowing two relatively soft goals before half time, going in the break at 2-2.

The lull continued into the first ten minutes of the first half, pressure more closely resembling a basketball match. The first were then able to capitalise on the widening space 3 times within the second half to leave the final score 5-2. Ben Rhydding continued to push forward, applying pressure that possibly would have deserved a goal had it not been from a diving stop from a 'sporadic' defender, clearly demonstrating his worth to the captain.

Final score 5-2, MOM Jimmy Swindon for a commanding display in midfield and a suburb opening goal into the bottom right hand corner for the first goal. Oh, and I think Richard Tuddenham may have also scored a few, yawn.

Goals from James Swinden (2); Richard Tuddenham (3)

Match Report

Slazengers Mens First Team travelled to the edge of the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday to take on Ben Ridding. Getting off to another strong start it was Ilkley Moor goals for the Firsts going two nil up inside the first 20 minutes of the game.

However the Slazenger attack soon became an uphill effort after some confident umpiring saw Mark Swindon take his fair share of 'rests' on the Technical Delegate's bench. Coming out in the second half with a renewed energy the overload seemed to spur on the opposition, and for a spell the game looked close. Some superb work in the net from Andy Loftus kept Slazengers in it until Richard Tuddenham hammered home another goal to seal his hat-trick and put the game beyond the reach.

Some strong defending all game looked like Slazengers Mens Firsts were heading for a clean sheet until a lapse in concentration from Jonathan White allowed the home team to steal a conciliation goal in the dying minutes of the game.

The final score was 3-1 to Slazenger.

Match Report

Slazenger produced their best performance of the season to edge out Ben Rhydding’s second string.

They had the visitors on the back foot throughout but were thwarted time and again by excellent goalkeeping.

Ben Rhydding had the first scoring chance from the penalty spot but man of the match Dave Hellam made a great diving save to keep yet another clean sheet.

This spurred Slazenger on and within five minutes they were ahead through Alec Gilston from a goal-mouth scramble.

The remainder of the first half was a well fought battle with the ball flying from end to end.

Slazenger were put under pressure in the second half but defended well before hitting back to create further scoring chances of their own.

All in all, however, league leaders Slazenger were happy to take all three Yorkshire League Division 1 points.

Slazenger entertain Hull University on Saturday, push back 1:30pm.

SLAZENGER RISE TO CHALLENGE TO CRUSH NEAREST TITLE RIVALS

Slazenger were out to prove themselves against their second placed opponents – and they rose to the test.

A positive start was made by both teams, with Nick Webb opening the scoring for Slazenger with a well-taken corner.

Slazenger took control of the game when Webb quickly added to his total, and tow further goals, for Jonny Wiper and Alec Gilston in the second half made it 4-0.

The visitors scored a well-worked consolation goal, but the day belonged to Slazenger with Webb, Marcus Taylor and wiper in good form.

The side travel to Bradford University 1st’s in their next fixture.

Match Report

Slazenger collected their first points in the Mowlem Yorkshire League with a battling win over the much-fancied Ilkley side. They got off to the worse possible start, letting in a goal from open play just two minutes following a lapse in concentration. However, they forced their way back into the game with Barrett skilfully deflecting the ball into the open net from a Chamberlain cross.

Lofthouse also went close for the Horbury side in the closing stages of the first half, but Slazenger had to do some defending after the break. With the game heading for a draw, it was left to Oldroyd to steal it for Slazenger after out-pacing two defenders and beating the keeper.
