Match Report
Slazenger endured a turbulent start in their latest clash against Sheffield, eventually falling to a 3–0 defeat despite a determined and much-improved second-half performance. The opening minutes were nothing short of chaotic, with Sheffield striking in the first minute and immediately putting Slaz on the back foot. The home team dominated the early stages, pressing high and controlling possession, and it wasn’t long before a second goal followed—again from open play. With Sheffield firmly in control, Slaz struggled to settle, and a third goal arrived within the first 15 minutes.
Gradually, Slazenger began to find their rhythm. Passages of composed team play emerged, including a strong run up the wing that lifted spirits. A short corner offered hope, but the opportunity slipped away. As the half drew to a close, Slaz mounted an excellent attack down the right, only for a player to be taken out just as a clear goal-scoring chance opened. Much to Slazenger’s frustration, no penalty flick was awarded. The second half saw a completely different Slazenger side. More composed and connected, they strung together some confident passing phases despite battling a wet, skiddy, and unpredictable pitch. Sheffield managed a few breaks of their own, but the Slaz defence held firm, shutting down every advance.
Several short corners gave Slaz a chance to claw back a goal, with Lou unleashing a particularly powerful strike, but Sheffield’s keeper held strong. Fatigue began to show late on, yet Slazenger refused to give in, pushing forward for a late consolation and keeping the ball moving end to end. While no goals were added in the second half, Slazenger can take heart from their resilience and teamwork after a punishing opening spell. The performance may not have yielded points, but it showed character—and something solid to build on for the next match.
Match Report
Slazenger L2s were at home for their first game of the season in the new league. They hosted Sheffield L3s who started strong. Both teams had sustained periods of possession and pressure, with Slazenger defending several short corners successfully. 5 minutes before half time Naomi Frith took a long corner, passing to Ella Haigh on a run from the back, Ella expertly sent the ball into the D to Nicci Swindon, who finished the move to head into half time at 1-0 up.
The second half told a similar story, with both teams showing different strengths with Slaz making strong switches and moving the ball into space, while Sheffield pressured in the D, challenging the defensive line of Ella, Gemma Syrett and Natalie Beech, testing keeper Erin Haigh who made some excellent saves. Once again though it was Slazenger who came out on top with a scrappy passage of play ending in Courtney Rowley seeing to ball into goal for Slazenger second.
Sheffield came back and with 10minutes to go finally converted a penalty corner for a consolation goal. The game finished 2-1 to Slazenger with Natalie Beech being voted player of the match for her outstanding defending on her second team debut.

Match Report
Hoping to continue with the flying start to the season the team came out strong and were straight on the attack. Playing a brilliant passing game by half time the score was 4-0 to Slazenger with goals from Natasha Wiper, Alex Gilbert, Stacey Drake and a flick from Sue Hope after a shot stopped on the line from Hannah Field. The second half was a slower pace when players were tired after losing 2 players to illness at the start of the game which meant no substitutes. The team still played as a unit and battled well giving the defence and Lisa Chappell another well deserved clean sheet. Final score 4-0. Player went jointly to Sue Hope, Hannah Field and Andrea Wallace.
