The Development team were unbeaten going into this game, but were low on player numbers, so an away trip to Chesterfield looked like a tough proposition. However, both teams were evenly matched and a very even start to the game ensued. The first half was played end to end, with both teams having scoring chances. Great defence from Julie Bailey, Amelia Sykes, Isaac Rawlings, Lorna Godson and Richard Coughtrey, combined with a number of one on one saves from Keeper Amelie Satterthwaite denied Chesterfield, whilst Declan Buxton, Aleks Thompson, and Beth Buckley kept the Chesterfield defence busy. Slaz had the best scoring chances of the half, but the Chesterfield Keeper was playing a blinder and proved impassable, to keep the half time score at nill all.

In the second half however, Slaz stepped up a gear. Ben Satterthwaite, Aleks Thompson and Owen Coughtrey controlled the midfield, keeping Chesterfield in their own half for prolonged periods. The deadlock was broken on 50 minutes and came from a short corner. The initial shot on goal from Owen Coughtrey was saved by the Chesterfield keeper, but Owen followed up his shot and scored from the rebound to take the lead. Slaz kept pushing, but were unable find a second goal. It was enough however to secure a third straight win for the Slaz juniors, who are improving each week.

Match Report

The two previous games between these two sides had been closely fought and this one was no different. Both sides had their periods of pressure in the first half, Chesterfield missed a couple of chances and the best Slaz chance went to Tyler Townend who ran onto an Alex Stacey through ball and smashed his first time strike into the keepers chest. Half time 0-0.

Chesterfield took the lead early in the second half from penalty corner, Paul Chilton’s brave attempted block only deflecting it past keeper Adam Garside. But Slaz practise has improved their performance from set pieces, their pressure resulting in repeated long and short corners – Eddie Kendall scoring from one for the second game running and then Tyler Townend’s , repeated persistence to get the ball back towards goal seeing it dribble over the line.

In all of this Slaz had gone down from 13 to 11, Luke Minchella and Will Gascoigne both being unable to continue after taking strikes to the ankle and knee respectively – brave boys!

Great performances all round, especially Alex Stacey, Eddie Kendall and (one his first ever game) Simon Kendall – but MoM went to Tyler Townend for his goal, hard work and great positional play, all of this on his birthday!

Match Report

Slazenger started brightly, passing the ball well, resulting in Alex Stacey scoring a well taken goal. The first half continued with Slaz playing a good passing game but, as last week, not taking chances. Early in the second half the Chesterfield striker (who had worked hard all game) finally craved a way through the Slaz defence to get an equaliser.

Despite having the bulk of possession and pressing hard Slaz were unable to penetrate the Chesterfield defence so had to be happy with just one point. Man of the Match was Fraser Cass.

Match Report

For the second week in a row Slaz 5s were slow out of the blocks and found themselves a goal down - however this time there was no redemption despite pressure that built to a frenzy in the second half. At one point there were seven chances on goal in a single presence in the opposition D, none converted, including Davey Ramsdale hitting the post. Final score Chesterfield 1 –0 Slazenger.

Two more Minchella debuts this week, dad Dean and youngest Luke, with Luke showing the older ones how it is done! Man of the match went to Tom Hyde for tireless work in midfield and for working to the plan.
