Match Report
Led by Harry as captain, Slaz welcomed Sheffield for a home fixture. The game started with end to end hockey. However, it was Matthew who got the first chance of the game, but……having thought he had got the opener it appears the whistle had been blown and a short corner awarded to Slaz for a couple of fouls on Matthew as he entered the D. Unfortunately Slaz were unable to convert this opportunity.
Having the let off gave Sheffield a wake up call and it wasn’t long before they were peppering Nikolai with shots, but an unfazed Nikolai (supported with much needed clearances from Harry, Georgie, Katie and Ollie) prevented Sheffield from converting. Then it was Slaz’s turn to go again, with some great passing as a team, followed by a run on the back line Noah got himself in a goal line scramble to finally get Slaz the lead.
A superb and speedy run down the line by Darcie, finished with an outstanding cross across the D found Cerys, who slotted ball in the back of the net to give Slaz their next goal. Having sent a few convincing balls down the pitch that had led to nothing, Noah finally managed to get a pass across the D to Matthew, who calmly slotted it home from the P spot to give Slaz a 3-0 lead.
With lots of end to end hockey during the match; the adults on the pitch tracked back to support defence, distributing the ball out to Jude, Darcie and Izzy who really worked on holding the width and creating chances down the wings. Upfront, Penny, Matthew and Cerys found some great spaces and were a constant threat. At the back Harry, Katie, Georgie and Ollie made some crucial and well timed tackles to regain Slazenger possession, going out to meet the attacks confidently.
Sheffield didn’t give up and managed to catch Slaz on the break, giving the crowd a nervous end to the game when they clawed 2 goals back in the final 12 minutes. Overall, a lovely game of hockey, with some great skill and teamwork demonstrated by both sides.
Player of the match: Noah for his all round display. Special mention to Penny on her first Devs league game!

Well the Men’s 1st Team may have been at Scarborough today but I doubt they saw as much sand as greeted the Team on arrival at Sheffield today…I was expecting donkey rides at half time! But putting aside their temptation to get out the buckets & spades, the Team got stuck in. It was immediately obvious that Sheffield were going to be tough opponents (and no doubt more familiar to playing on a beach!) and so it proved with them scoring 4 in the first half despite some strong defence from Noah in particular and Nikolai’s usual 110% effort in goal.
I’m not entirely sure what the coaches said during the half time talk but it certainly worked because it was a revitalised Slaz team who took to the pitch for the 2nd 35 minutes! There were some tremendous runs forwards from Adelaide, Ruth & Izzy and several times we seemed on the brink of scoring but despite the best efforts of Georgina, Darcie & Ella, the ball refused to go over the line (not helped by a Sheffield goal keeper who may have driven to the match). Jess, Cerys and Charlie continued to recycle the ball & push hard from midfield but unfortunately it just wasn’t to be today and the score ended 5-0 (we shall gloss over Sheffields 5th goal as it was very much against the run of play)
Teas: chip butties and sausages….devoured with enough gusto to suggest that the kids hadn’t been fed all year!
Player of the Match: Noah for a tremendously solid game at right back…thoroughly well deserved
Donut: I think we were all hoping Adelaide would continue her early season form but instead it went to Ruth for her inexplicably collapsing legs.
Thank you to Keith, Mark & Gemma for being the playing adults and imparting hockey wisdom on their young colleagues. Plenty to learn from today but they should all be very proud of their work rate and coming out SO strongly in the 2nd half…..WELL DONE

Another determined team travelled, again, to Sheffield & after parking issues found they were straight on the pitch. We were 2-0 down after the first quarter & decided to put that down as our warm up. The development team kept fighting throughout & despite some quick opposition held a strong defence. We were unlucky to concede a goal in the last seconds of the first half.
The second half finally gave us a break from the low sun & we continued to battle. The determination paid off with a great finish from Owen Wiper. Another great game of hockey with players showing great determination & resilience throughout.

The Development teams winning start to the season ended abruptly this week, with a 9-1 defeat against Sheffield Hallam. Sheffield came with a well drilled team who dominated throughout, putting Slazenger’s defence under pressure from the start. Slazenger’s were equal to the challenge for the first quarter, but the pressure started to tell with the goals steadily flowing thereafter.
The highlight for Slazenger’s was a solo consolation goal from Seth Hoole midway through the second half, beating several defenders and the keeper to score in the left corner. The young Slazenger team showed great effort throughout and never stopped trying to the end,

Although Slazenger played well in attack they could not capitalise on chances made and failed to work hard enough defensively.
Sheffield worked well on the counter taking a goal early in the first half and two more in the second. Final score Sheffield 3-0 Slaz.
Sparkling debut for Tommy Randle and Man of Match went to keeper Adam Garside who prevented the loss being much heavier.

Slazenger started slowly and found themselves behind within the first five minutes on a very cold evening. They soon warmed up and got back into the game with a goal from Davey Ramsdale.
In the second half Slaz sorted out their tactics and put pressure on the visitors, Alex Stacey scoring great individual goal.
League debuts were made by Fraser Cass and Joe Minchella, with Fraser taking Man of the Match (and smallest player on the pitch!)

Another fantastic team performance by Slazenger Men\'s Development team as they travelled to Sheffield Hallam who were second in the league. Despite playing some skilful opposition, Slazenger intensity, work rate and team work saw a well deserved 2-0 victory.
Great midfield effort, good defensive work and well taken goals by Dan Cass and Josh Swallow were enough to shock the opposition.

On a snowy and wintery day Slazenger Development team travelled to Sheffield Hallam HC. A very close game followed and despite several chances Slazenger were unable to score past a large adult keeper.
On one of the oppositions attacks which was well executed they managed to get their goal. As Slazenger piled on the pressure and having most of the second half possession and territory we could not find the equaliser. Very tough conditions, well done team. Man of Match Sam Haigh.

A very determined and disciplined team performance saw Slazengers Development team beat a skilful and well organised Sheffield Hallam Development team. Great teamwork was evident throughout and saw Sam Haigh and Josh Swallow score the two goals after good Slazenger build up play. Mattie Chilton (man of the match) had a great work rate and control in the centre of the pitch. Ben Stevenson in defence kept attacks at bay. A great team win 2-1.
