Slazenger development returned to action for our first outing of 2026 after last week’s Arctic conditions kindly cancelled hockey across the land. We welcomed Lindum, who made the long journey to Slaz for a late push-back. Pre-match chaos arrived in the form of a last-minute goalkeeper search. Enter Amelia, heroically stepping up between the posts despite never having played in goal before. No pressure.
The defensive unit of Katie, Georgie, Etta and Noah worked tirelessly to protect our newly recruited keeper, shutting down attack after attack. When Lindum did break through, Amelia produced some impressive clearances, showing no signs of panic (at least not outwardly). Despite the resistance, Lindum grabbed the opener after a fumble in the D.
Slaz responded well, pushing forward with confidence. The midfield link-up play was a real highlight, with Izzy and Alistair showing off lightning pace and skill down the right-hand side. Addy was outstanding in centre mid, driving the team forward, winning the ball back and linking play smoothly with those around her. The pressure paid off when Amelie pushed up in attack and was rewarded with a well-taken equaliser.
Up front, Jess, Ruth and Cerys were a constant threat, applying relentless pressure and tackling opposition adult players without hesitation. Jess was exceptional throughout the game, combining pace, skill and composure in attack. It was a complete attacking performance – this girl is on fire! With five minutes remaining, Lindum managed to break and score to retake the lead. Slaz didn’t give up, pushing hard for the equaliser. Noah and Katie drove the team forward in the closing moments, coming agonisingly close when Noah struck the post right at the end.
This was a real team performance, with everyone working for each other, supporting one another and showing great determination right to the final whistle. Huge thanks to Gemma W, Gemma S and Laura for being the supporting adults today, and to Owen for managing the subs. Player of the Match: Jess for a standout attacking performance. Donut of the Day: Amelia for a samba-style move in full GK kit! A debut to remember!

The Devs embarked on their first away adventure of the season, bravely travelling beyond the sacred borders of Yorkshire into the wilds of Lindum. Spirits were high, temperaments questionable, and the pizza prospects strong. From the first whistle, Slaz came out swinging — earning an early short corner which they could not convert. Then…glorious history was made! Cerys, in her first-ever league game, received a through ball from Izzy, calmly glided into the D like she’d been doing it for years, and slotted it home for 1–0. Cool. Composed. Clinical. Meanwhile, GK Ami spent most of the first half resting, thanks to Slaz holding 95% possession. At the back, Katie shut down Lindum’s attacks linking well with Izzy and Cerys down the right — a super trio! Four consecutive short corners followed without converting. Despite not feeling well herself, Georgie battled on and got herself into some great positions.
Half time: 1–0. Glorious team chat full of positivity!
The second half saw Adelaide and Amelia continue to boss centre midfield, while Matthew launched into some jab tackles so sharp they required a safety warning! Noah was unfazed by tackling fully grown adults. Lindum eventually clawed back an equaliser late in the second half, despite Slaz throwing bodies and sticks in defence. For the fourth week in a row, the prestigious Donut of the Day goes to…Adelaide! However — in an unprecedented twist — this week’s donut may need to be shared with her Dad, who served as Chief Chauffeur, Logistics Manager, and Human Sat Nav for the cross-border expedition.

The development team travelled to Lindum for a mid-day fixture against a traditionally strong opposition. Slaz scored through a goal from Owen Wiper, but unfortunately conceded 3 in response from the home side.

The winning streak continued for the Development team this week with a hard-fought win over Lindum, who provided the toughest test of the season so far. The game was a tale of two halves, with Lindum having the best of the first half, putting Slaz under pressure from the start, who were looking a little disjointed.
The Lindum pressure told mid-way through the half, with a long ball through to the left winger, who beat the defence and placed the ball past the keeper to open the scoring. As the half wore on Slaz began to find their feet and came close scoring towards the end of the half, with debutant Owen Wiper hitting the post with a great shot from the edge of the D. Some great saves from keeper Lillianna Burrows kept Lindum to a single goal at the break.
Slaz produced a much more cohesive second half performance. Aidy Buckley, Ben Satterthwaite and Owen Coughtrey controlled the midfield, and created scoring chances for Ollie Tuddenham and Beth Buckley, but player of the match Amelia Sykes levelled the scores on 45 minutes, tucking the ball neatly passed the keeper following a great pass from Declan Buxton. Declan Buxton then scored the winning goal only a few minutes later. Lindum fought back in the closing stages of the game, but Slaz hung on for the win to maintain the unbeaten start to the season.

Slazenger 5’s were given a lesson in how to play hockey by a young, skilful, Lindum side. Early goals took the heart out of Slaz and they never got near to competing after the first 20 minutes.

Slazenger Men’s 5ths (Development) travelled to Lincoln to face Lindum. A tight game played out in 23 degree heat saw no goals but plenty of sweat!
Both teams had chances but it finished goalless. Slazenger MoM was Alex Stacey who constantly troubled the Lindum defence.
