Normanby Park

Report: 12-02-2006 – Boys U12 Tournament

February 12, 2006 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U12s played in the latest tournament and produced some excellent performances.

The programme was shortened to a four matches because of the school holidays.

Slazenger held their first opponents Normandy Park B to a creditable 0-0 draw, given that the opposition had borrowed several players from their A team.

The team had to battle hard with Danny Perry and the rest of the Slazenger midfield putting in a lot of effort.

York B were not quite of the same standard as Normanby but there were still chances at both ends with goalkeeper Adam Davis and defender Thomas Kent making saves before Jack Kitchen netted for Slazenger.

Next followed Chapeltown with nothing to split the two teams with Jack Barras going close for Slazenger.

Chapeltown scored the only goal with a well-taken shot.

The final game was against the strongest side in the group, Thirsk, which ended in a goalless draw after some resolute defending.

Worthy of a special mention are Jenson Brook, Tom Logan and Isaac Fisher, who not only played all the Slazenger games but played three matches for Normanby, who were short of players.

Report: 13-02-2005 – Boys U12 Tournament

February 13, 2005 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U12s took part in a series of tournament games and although they did not manage a win were pleased with their progress during the day.

In the first match, Slaz started strongly against a skilled Halifax team, producing a well struck goal from Chris Wood, but Halifax hit back to win.

Against Driffield the result was a draw but Daniel Perry and Jake Barras both had half chances up front and posed a serious threat to the Driffield defence. It was however a competent and composed keeping by Jack Mumford and splendid tackling from Robert Furness that kept Slaz in the game.

The game against Normanby Park was a scrappy one, but both teams showed the will to win.

Good midfield play from Aled Davies with decisive tackling made Slaz look good on the counter attack, but Park took the glory with a great solo effort.

Against Ben Rhydding, Slaz’ were caught hibernating in the first minute, but then produced the best hockey of the day with good linking play down the wings from Ailish Hendry at the back, through Chris Wood, to Adam Driver up front, they looked like a team on a mission, but lacked the finish.

In the final match Jake Barras scored early on from a lovely cross, but L A Metros came back into it.

Strong defending from James Dransfield and Aled Davies, gave Chris Wood a belting strike from the top of the D but it was disallowed and L A Metros later equalized.

Report: 12-01-2002 – Mens 3rd’s (0) vs (2) Normanby Park 2nd’s

January 12, 2002 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger thirds, desperate for points in Yorkshire League Division 6, lost out 2-0 in their closely fought game at Normanby Park seconds.

The visitors were caught flat-footed in the early minutes and found themselves 1-0 down.

Andy Birkett and Simon Miller looked to bring Slazenger back into the game and they thought their efforts had reaped rewards when Andy Birkett cut the ball back to Geoff Birkett who touched the ball on for James Walker to fire the ball home. But the goal was disalowed and Normanby kept their lead.

The game was evenly contested with Neil Hutchins, Eddie Taylor and Martin Lofthouse outstanding for Slazenger. But the result was put beyond doubt with a late second Normanby goal.

Report: 10-11-2001 – Mens 3rd’s (1) vs (2) Normanby Park

November 10, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Thirds lost 2-1 to Normanby Park seconds in a game they dominated overall.

However, a failure to convert their chances cost the home side dearly.

Slazenger opened the scoring early on with a superb finish from John Sykes.

Normanby Park equalised on the break-away in the second half. Slazenger responded well and looked to have restored their lead but an early whistle for a foul resulted in a second short corner – from which Normanby Park broke away to score.

Despite constant pressure thereafter by Slazenger, they were unable to break down a now well-manned defence. Slazenger travel to Brigg thirds on Saturday, push back 2pm.

Report: 20-10-2001 – Mens 4th’s (3) vs (0) Normanby Park

October 20, 2001 by Slazenger HC

A much changed Slazenger fourths still managed to out-gun visitors Normanby Park 3-0.

Jonathan Clewlow, Gavin Kaye and James Walker worked particularly well in attack while seasoned campaigner Dave Smyth scored two of the three goals off quick counter-attacks.

Gavin Kaye out away the third from a good cross into the circle.

Slazenger are at Tadcaster on Saturday, push back 3pm.
