In a ding-dong match, Slaz came out victors with a cleverly deflected goal from Gavin Kaye in the last few minutes. There never more than one goal in it with Slaz opening the scoring with a short corner strike from skipper Geoff Birkett. After a reply from Harrogate, Martin Lofthouse pot Slaz back in front with a flick into the corner of the net from another short corner routine - only for Harrogate to hit back again. Slazenger seconds ended their league campaign with a deserved but slender win over Sheffield University Bankers. A lack-lustre first half ended 0-0. Slazenger dominated the second half and were rewarded with a superbly placed flick from Andy Birkett. Slazenger thirds returned to winning ways with a 4-1 success over Bradford's third string. Two excellent goals from Paul Wiper gave Slazenger a 2-1 half-time lead. Slazenger slumped in the middle of the game but rallied to score further goals through John Sykes who put in a high-octane performance, and Richard Whawell.
