Slazenger mens 3rd's suffered a 4-1 defeat on Sunday at the hands of Chapeltown 4th's. The team fought hard, but struggled to repeat the flowing form which had created such high scoring victories of earlier rounds of the cup. Slazenger 3rds got their first league win on the board in emphatic fashion, with a 8-0 win over local rivals Rotherham 4th's. In recent games, Slaz seemed able to create many chances, without the ability to convert them to goals. This was rectified this weekend. A depleted Slazenger 3rds team travelled away to play top of the league Lincoln 3rd's and despite an incredibly well fought game, were unfortunate to come away with their first loss of the season. (note - it appears Lincoln's 2nds team have folded splitting between the 1's and 3's, So Slazenger were going to have a tough fight on their hands.) Slazenger men's 3rds breezed through the away quarter final cup encounter with Rotherham 4ths, beating them 6-1. Rotherham, who had been unbeaten in cup encounters for 3 years struggled to keep pace with a fast and fluid Slazenger side. Slazenger 3rd's went into their confrontation with Garforth 1st's looking for a win, though could only manage a draw. The game started briskley with some fast flowing hockey. Wingers Luke Gueli and Man of the match Robin Brearton worked tirelessly to move the ball down the wings, opening the pitch and allowing midfielders to feed the strikers.
