Slazenger seconds returned to 'astro' with a bump being thumped 3-0 by harrogate thirds. Slazenger absorbed so much pressure in the first half that it was inevitable that something would have to give. But man of the match John Bagshaw overcame early injury fears to keep the half-time deficit down to a single goal. Graham and Swinden worked well together in midfield in the second half. Slazenger first XI's pre-season friendly with the newly-combined Sheffield University and Sheffield Bankers proved a real humdinger. Slazenger won it 4-0 but had to be patient and wait for a decisive move by Matthew Birkett to break the deadlock.
