Report: 08-12-2012 – Ladies 3rd’s (2) vs. (2) Chapeltown 2nd’s

The ladies 3rd string travelled away to fellow league competitors Chapletown 2nd’s. Chapeltown presented a strong physical opposition, and gave the visitors an aggressive game.

However, Slaz rose to the challenge, creating a close fought, competitive match. Slazengers played some great hockey, and were rewarded with a brace of goals from Elle Poskett. Chapeltown were equally clinical in front of goal, equaling the visitors efforts.

The game ended equal at 2-2 a well fought result. Player of the match went to Emily Entwistle for fantastic work in mid field.

Report: 17-11-2012 – Ladies 3rd’s (4) vs. (0) Colne Valley 2nd’s

Slazenger’s 3rds took on Colne Valley at their new home Mirfield Free Grammer School and it was set to be an interesting battle.

The first half was dominated by slazenger’s with the defence working hard to keep Colne Valley out of the D. The midfield pushed the ball into slazenger’s attacking D, but failed to convert.

After the break, slazenger’s were fired up and ready. Early in the second half Slazenger’s won a penalty corner which Linda Stacey converted into a goal. The second goal came in open play from Rebecca Gummerson who expertly placed the ball in the onion bag. The third goal was distributed from midfield to a waiting to pounce Rebecca Gummerson, who got the slightest of touches and the ball was in the net again! The fourth and final goal came from another penalty corner where Linda Stacey converted Rebecca’s push out!

Final score was 0-4 to slazenger’s! Player of the game went to debutant Anna Vessey in goal for some awesome saves and keeping an excellent clean sheet.

Report: 10-11-2012 – Ladies 3rd’s (1) vs. (1) Harrogate 5th’s

Slazenger’s ladies 3rds took on Harrogate at slazenger’s. With both teams equal on points, the prospect of the game was mouthwatering, and it didn’t disappoint.

The game was end to end with Slazenger’s putting the ball into the D but failing to convert. Slazenger’s maintained the pressure but were caught on the break early in the first half and Harrogate scored.

Some half time words from inspirational new coach Hayley Wood were effective and slazenger’s 3rds continues to defend well in the second half. The ball was then thrust into the Slazenger’s attacking D, where Becky Gummerson was waiting to battle hard with the keeper and boom went the back board! The celebration was a sight to behold with Becky ecstatic at her first goal of the season!

Final score was 1-1 which was a fair result after 70 minuets! Well played to everyone.

It was hard to pick a man of the match as everyone played so well however Donna Wood just pipped it for excellent defensive work!

Report: 03-11-2012 – Ladies 3rd’s (3) vs. (3) York University 2nd’s

The ladies 3rd string travelled away to York, and came away with a hard fought & well earned draw. The game was an end to end affair, with periods of extended pressure from both sides.
Goal scorers were Justine Birkett, who bagged a brace, and Claire Dunstan who bagged the third.
Naomi Horsley picked up man of the match for an outstanding contribution in midfield.

Report: 20-10-2012 – Ladies 3rd’s (2) vs. (3) Brigg 2nd’s

This exciting game of hockey was a spectacle to watch with end to end chances!

Slaz got the first break with a magnificent Claire Dunstan run through the middle, only for the shot to go wide. Brigg then caught slaz on the break and obtained a penalty corner which they converted 1-0 brigg.

Slaz kept the heads up and after many attempts on goal, slaz won a PC. The ball was expertly switched right to Alex Stead who smashed the back board with an awesome strike. The exciting hockey continued with Chloe bates (gk) making some awesome saves. Unfortunately the pressure was too great and Brigg converted another 2-1.

Half time and slaz regrouped. After half time, slaz obtained another penalty corner and second receiver Linda Stacey smashed the ball to bring the scores level. Slaz kept the pressure on but couldn’t convert their many chances.

Two minuets from the end, Brigg were awarded a series of penalty corners for Brigg who scored from in open play in the last minuet. Final score 3-2 to Brigg but many positives to be taken out of the game! Player of the game Linda Stacey said in her post match interview ‘we were excellent and things are coming together now.

We are playing as a team with an amazing team spirit, it’s a joy to play for Slazenger’s 3rds despite the result’
