Report: 10-03-2012 – Ladies 3rd’s (1) vs (2) City of York 5th’s

Slazenger’s ladies 3rd team suffered a narrow defeat to near top of the table City of York 4.

Slazenger’s piled the pressure on with numerous attempts on goal but this proved futile.

The strong defences were broken down and city of York scored but slaz kept there heads up and pushed forward. Gemma whittam fed in player of the match Katie Browne who stormed into the D and scored bottom corner.

Second half was an interesting watch, end to end hockey with lost of positives but unfortunately the defences were broken down again and York scored.

Final score 2-1

Report: 18-02-2012 – Ladies 3rd’s (1) vs (5) Pickering 1st’s

Slazenger travelled to Pickering for a tough encounter against strong 3rd place Pickering’s 1st team.

The horbury side’s younger side had some good posession and created several opportunities, however the strong Pickering team attacked multiple times, forcing some hard fought defending from the visitors.

Slaz struggled to penetrate the Pickering defence and were unable to capitalise on the opportunities they created.

At the other end, Pickering wore down the defence, finding the net 4 times.

Slazenger did have limited success, with Donna Wood netting 1 in response.

The visitors fought hard, but unfortunately the scoreline ended 4-1 to the home side.

Report: 28-01-2012 – Ladies 3rd’s (0) vs (4) Lincoln Roses 1st’s

Slazenger’s ladies 3rd team battled hard against high flying Lincoln (University( Roses, to no avail.

The newcomers to the Yorkshire leagues were fast paced and skillful, but slaz stood firm for 20 mins, playing with three at the back. The team worked hard for each other but the deadlock was eventually broken by Lincoln as the pressure proved too much, and the defences were broken.

Keeper Chloe Bates made some excellent saves and the midfield worked tirelessly to get back into the game. Hannah field (Slazenger’s man of the match) moved out of position, commanded the midfield and worked hard.

The forwards could not convert the few chances they had and the final score was 4-0, but an enjoyable game of hockey and many positives can be taken from the encounter.

Report: 21-01-2012 – Ladies 3rd’s (1) vs (0) Otliensians 2nd’s

Slaz ladies 3rds returned to the pitch after a week away due to frost. However, they were quick to get back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over the Otliensians 2nds’.

After the first encounter of the league ended in a draw, new captain Gemma Whittam was quick to take the reigns, and put Slazenger in the driving seat this time. The hard fought battle against Otley was end to end action, with several close efforts for both teams.

However, with new player Lauren McQueen making her debut for slaz, the robust defence stood strong and keeper Chloe Bates was only tested a couple of times

Following numerous attempts on goal, the deadlock was finally broken by player of the match, Angie Ouchakova who slapped home the goal from a well worked manoeuvre, one-nil to slaz. Both teams continued to contest throughout the remainder of the game, but neither side could score again.

The team worked well together and continues to improve game-on-game as evident by the 1-0 final score.

Report: 19-11-2011 – Ladies 3rd’s (5) vs (4) Colne Valley

Slazenger Ladies 3rds enjoyed a hard fought 5-4 victory over Colne Valley in another high scoring game away from home.

From the off, Slaz maintained strong pressure, and a well controlled defensive formation to contain theColneValleythreat. JessHolland(player of the match) produced some cutting runs down the wing, delivering several balls into the D with no repsone from the home team. Unfortunately, a strong attack co-ordinated by the hosts found a shot on goal, putting them 1-0 ahead.

Slaz were prompt to respond; Gemma Whittam slipping the first goal in past the keeper. A co-ordinated piece of flowing through play gave the visitors the advantage. Hannah Field made darting runs alongside Nayesha Tejura, feeding the ball to Gemma Whittam. The ball was driven forward to Becky Gummerson, who secured the second.

ColneValleyscored the equaliser in short order.

Becky Gumerson scored the third as the pressure once again turned with Slaz. Linking play from the midfield gave the team width; Zoe Bacon and Naomi Horsley stretched the midfield, driving the ball thgough to Julie Bacon, and Gemma Whittam who took the shot. The keeper’s save was followed up, putting Slaz ahead once again.

Just before half timeColneValleymanaged to pull back the goal difference.

The fourth came from a short corner routine; Jess Holland pushed out, finding Julie Finch for the strike on goal. The  clearance fell to Julie Bacon, who drilled it into the net. However, the lead was short lived, as ColneValleyscored their 4th of the game!

With minutes left, and the game looking like a draw, Slaz had one last chance on goal. A shot inside the D was driven wide, but a quick movement from Jess Holland collected it, depositing it in the back fo the net.
