Brigg

Report: 24-09-2016 – Mens 4th’s (4) vs. (3) Brigg 4th’s

September 24, 2016 by Slazenger HC

In the opening game of the season Slazenger 4th’s travelled away to Brigg in what was to be a thrilling end to end openly played game.

Brigg had taken a 2 goal lead in the first half. However with the last minute of play before half time, a high ball across the d was plucked from the air and deposited into the back of the Brigg net by captain Steve Johnson.

The second half was set for the 4 young debutant 4th team players to make their mark: Dan Cass; James Armitage, Davey Ramsdale and Harry Buttery. They didn’t disappoint in what was to be a second half demolition job by Slazenger 4.

Final score 4-3; with a further brace from Captain Johnson to Slazenger 4th team.

Report: 28-11-2015 – Ladies 3rd’s (2) vs. (1) Brigg 2nd’s

November 28, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers ladies 3’s travelled to Brigg for their Saturday afternoon fixture keen to build on their win from last week. They showed their intent early and looked confident in their passing and movement. Attacking chances were created from the off with player of the match Naomi Frith dictating play from the middle. Slazengers were rewarded when some very quick movement from Carol Schofield saw the visitors go 1 up when she struck the back board mid way through the first half.

There was very little work for the Slazengers defence to do. This saw a change to Slazengers formation in the second half as they gave themselves the luxury of pushing another player into attack. The second half however was a more even affair and the Brigg attack caught the Slazengers defence momentarily off guard and evened out the score.

Slazenger’s fought back with intensity and the lead was restored one minute before the final whistle when the Slazengers were awarded a short corner which was injected with precision by Emily Chason and neatly finished off by Naomi Frith.

Next week Slazengers are looking to upset top of the league Sheffield Bankers

Report: 31-10-2015 – Mens 4ths (0) vs. (3) Brigg 4th’s

October 31, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers 4s went with another young team to end their run of away trips at Brigg. In the first half Slaz fought hard but Brigg led 2-0 at the break after two breakaway goals. Slaz then continued to push and the second half was end to end but Brigg scored again to secure the win.

Noteable performances go to Harry Gunning who controlled the midfield with his brilliant distribution. Also Dan Cass and Josh Dunstan proved threatening up front and were unlucky not to score.

Next week Slaz are finally at home against Doncaster at 3.

Report: 18-01-2014 – Mens 3rd’s (2) vs. (2) Brigg 3rd’s

January 18, 2014 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Mens 3’s had tough opposition in Brigg 3’s for their latest match in Yorkshire division 5. Earlier in the year Brigg had given the Horbury side a bit of a hockey lesson in the repeat fixture.

This time Slazengers took the early initiative with man of the match winger Ian Hedges leading the way with tenacious tackling and good stick skills. Slazengers looked to build attacks from out wide with good link up play from midfield.

Brigg were a lot more direct hitting wide players up front and using their skills to cause chaos in the Horbury team penalty area. Despite this James Higgins and Tony Walker were solid in defence and the whole team were determined to not let the opposition dominate play. It was no fluke when the home team took the lead after a low drilled pass into the opposition goalmouth was tipped into the goal by a Brigg defender.

Slazengers held onto the lead for a short while before Brigg found their striker unmarked on the edge of the goalmouth who calmly slotted past the Slazengers keeper. Halftime score 1-1.

The start of the second half was the most important part of the game, with the game even poised, both sides created good attacking opportunities without finding the net. Slazengers missed a glaring opportunity to take the lead just before Brigg did manage to score.

Luckily, heads didn’t drop and within 5 minutes Alan Perry restored parity with a well taken goal, driven high into the roof of the net.

The last quarter of the game became more disjointed and fractious but neither team were able to find the winner so final score was 2-2.
