Boys U18's

Report: 21-09-2014 – Boys U18’s (3) vs. (1) Timperley

September 21, 2014 by Slazenger HC

The extremely competent horbury side found themselves quickly on the back foot in this much awaited cup contest, conceding a short corner 5 minutes into the game for which Chester based Timperley took great advantage of and converted giving them an early lead.Slazengers young warriors showed their true resolve in not letting their heads go down and battled back into the game and had much of the remaining half’s possession.

Opening the scoring from a well worked short corner Will Copley deftly wrong footed Timperley’s keeper and Luke Gueli powering the ball home from yet another short corner Slazenger finished the first half 2-1.Solid performances from Will Copley, Oliver Holmes (debutant) and Luke Gueli leading the direct attack and ably supported with great performances from Aiden Hopkinson, Tom Pitchforth and Isaac Fisher in Midfield, literally ground down Timperley’s attempts at counter attack.

The occasional route one ball finding Timperley’s lead striker was ably dealt with by Skipper James Higgins and Matthew Feather. Intelligent team play from the whole of the squad helped to keep their shape and further pressurize the visitors into making mistakes, giving continued possession for the home side and adding another deserved goal through open play to Will Copley.Man of the Match was Will Copley.

Slazenger will meet Doncaster in the next round of the EHB Cup on the 5th October.

Barcelona – as Yorkshire Champions for the 2013/14 season they also look forward to their tour to Barcelona to the Spanish Boys U18 Tournament held at Egara HC, Barcelona on January 2nd to the 6th 2015
