Report: 23-10-1999 – Mens 1st’s (5) vs (0) Boston Spa

October 23, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger firsts maintained their position at the top of Yorkshire League 2 with an entertaining win over lacklustre Boston Spa.

Slazenger entered into their dominant stride early in the first half pressurising the Spa defence into conceding two first half flicks converted somewhat luckily by leading scorer Mark Buttle

Boston succumbed to further pressure after Simon Chamberlain finished another well worked counter attack.

Slazengers fitness told in the second half as they dominated play and created several further chances with man of the match Nick Webb converting two of them to round off another polished performance.

On Saturday, Slazenger travel to Chapeltown start 2pm.

Report: 16-10-1999 – Ladies 1st’s (2) vs. (0) Wakefield Wanderers

October 16, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Ladies firsts secured their fifth straight Yorkshire League Division 2 win of the campaign with a 2-0 victory over derby rivals Wakefield Wanderers.

Slazenger started tentatively, weighing up the opposition instead of testing them out.

But the team soon got into its stride and out-played Wanderers with terrigic build-up play masterminded by player of the match Katrina Pickles and Andrea Wallace.

Slazenger created a stack of goal-scoring chances and should have won by a greater margin though it has to be said that the Wanderers goalkeeper also played a key role in keeping the score down.

Those who did find the targer were Julie Bear and Carol Wakenshaw.

Report: 16-10-1999 – Mens 3rd’s (3) vs. (0) Ben Rhydding

October 16, 1999 by Slazenger HC

After a tight start, Slazenger thirds pulled away to record a notable 3-0 win over Ben Rhydding.

Andy Birkett followed up well for the opening goal, lifting well over the grounded goalkeeper. And the second was even better, Richard Whawell getting to the bye-line and pulling the ball back across the D for James Swinden to hammer home.

Man of the match Birkett tucked away the third.

Slazenger thirds are away to York Sixths on Saturday, push back 12:30pm.
