Under 8’s
This lovely bunch of U8s were playing today at Leeds Adel. It was a debut game for four players today and what an incredible debut it was for Emily, Heidi, Georgia and Maci!
Game 1 v Adel
Ella and Emily started in defence, strongly making tackles when needed. Ella distributed the ball beautifully to the midfield players and the team were rewarded with their first goal scored by Matthew. Frances and Penny held some brilliant positions in midfield and worked well to push up in attack. Heidi in attack helped the team to score another goal with Matthew getting his second. Maci came on as left midfield and worked hard and Georgia came on in defence and the team scored another from Matthew ending the game 3-0.
Game 2 v York
This was a tough second game but the team worked really hard throughout despite York scoring.
Game 3 v Bradford
Emily and Georgia started off in defence putting in some solid tackles. Superstar Ella moved up into midfield, along with Frances and Maci who put in some great tackles. Heidi was the lone attacker but found some great positions. Matthew subbed on as attacker and scored a goal. The team continued to push forward, and Georgia made a well timed tackle and passed to Matthew who scored again putting the score to 2-0 as the final whistle blew.
Game 4 v York
The team started off strongly with Ella and Emily in defence, supported by Frances and Matthew in midfield. Heidi found some great positions in the D and was rewarded with her first ever Slaz goal!! The team continued to play well with Georgia coming on in defence and putting in some solid and well timed tackles. Maci came on in midfield, she had grown in confidence throughout the tournament and worked hard in both attack and defence. The team worked well together and Matthew scored again ending the game 2-0.
Game 5 v Ben Rhydding
This was another good game, with Ella and Georgia in defence. Maci had a great chance to score and Matthew was ready for the rebound and scored our first goal of the game. Frances and Penny, worked super hard in midfield and linked well with Matthew who scored another goal for the team. Ella moved into midfield and Heidi came on in defence to play with Emily and stopped any attacks ending the game 2-0.
Game 6 v Adel
The final group game was a more difficult game to start with but the team played some great hockey and were rewarded with two goals from Matthew which put the team ahead 2-0 and into the semi final.
Semi v Harrogate
The team played a tough Harrogate side and found themselves a goal down. Emily and Ella worked well together to stop further attacks and pushed the team forward. Matthew, Penny and Frances played well together in midfield, and Maci put the opposition under pressure when the team broke into attack. Georgia came on in defence and the team worked hard showing that green Slaz spirit and Maci scored her first ever Slaz goal to equalise which ended the game at 1-1 which meant extra time. Unfortunately due to some rather questionable umpiring decisions, the opposition’s shot from outside the D was allowed…twice ending the game 0-2.
The team went into the 3/4th place play offs against Leeds Adel but were really knocked by the decisions in the previous game which made it a tough game for the kids. Sadly we lost this game 1-0 which was a real shame after some excellent hockey from all the team. The experienced four of Ella, Penny, Frances and Matthew worked well with their new team mates and some lovely hockey was played. We ended the tournament with packets of smarties and smiles so overall a good day was had! Thanks to the parents for supporting and well down to all the kids who played today
