U10 Boys Match Reports
Slazenger (0) vs. (0) Leeds Adel
The Slaz team were slow to start and a quick start from Adel put the Slaz team under pressure. However a great save from GK Nikolai and some well timed and strong tackles from Harry S and Freddie in defence along with Alistair who worked back to support the defence kept the opposition from scoring.
Noah in midfield beat the Adel defence, took the ball round the GK but his shot was saved on the line by an Adel defender. There was more end to end play from both teams which Matthew, Zach and Dom created chances from but could not convert into goals. Alistair battled hard in this game, showing his pace and skills, creating many chances down the right. The Slaz defence stayed strong and a break on the left from Harry S (who was playing his second ever tournament) and little Harry created several more chances for Alistair and Noah up front but the game ended 0-0.
Slazenger (2) vs. (1) Halifax
The team knew this would be a tough game against Halifax, and the opposition made the first break into the D but it was a fantastic tackle from Dom which stopped their attack. Alistair continued to demonstrate his quality skills and speed and broke down the right side of the pitch, he made a perfect pass to Noah at the top of the D, who controlled the ball and slotted it past the Halifax GK. This goal gave the team the confidence they needed, Noah made a fantastic interception on the left. He took on and doubled megged the Halifax defenders, made a pass to Matthew in the D but his shot was saved. Noah was determined in this game and showed his class with a forceful run down the right, into the D and with a cheeky reverse flick into the goal. The opposition created chances but the strong Slaz defence and midfield of Zach, Harry S, little Harry and Freddie and GK Nikolai blocked their chances. The team continued the attack with a quick break from Dom and Alistair, they were supported by Harry S and Matthew whose movement and positioning created more chances for Slaz. Halifax then broke away and with some good passing around the Slaz defence managed to score at the back post to get them back in the game but some critical saves from GK Nikolai kept Halifax out and the game finished 2-1 to Slaz.
Slazenger (4) vs. (1) Leeds
Leeds started strongly, applying the pressure but a solid tackle by Zach set up the team for a fast break from Matthew down the right wing which led to a shot well saved by the Leeds GK. Leeds broke away but the pace from Alistair to get back and make a great tackle stopped the attack. Leeds then took a quick side line and a brilliant solo run opened the Slaz defence to put Leeds 1-0 up. The boys were determined to fight back, Slaz quickly attacked the opposition half and a great pass from Noah to Matthew made it 1-1, with a great shot into the corner of the goal. Alistair continued to show his skill, he took on two defenders and with great support from Dom and Matthew, space was created for Alistair to run the ball into the goal with Matthew getting a final touch to it to make sure. The solid defence of Freddie, Harry S and Zach made some good tackles to stop any further attacks. Noah broke away up towards the opposition D, and it was Dom who was quickest to pounce on a loose ball and scored giving the team a good lead. Noah made it 4 goals for the team with a great tackle and solo finish. GK Nikolai had little to do in this game as the defence were strong and they set the midfield and attack off on some brilliant attacks including one brilliant square pass from Zach to Little Harry which set Slaz on another attack. The Slaz boys showed some great determination to come back from going down 1-0 and displayed some excellent hockey skill to end 1-4 victors!
Slazenger (0) vs. (0) Aire Valley
The boys started this game strongly with a superb interception from the push back from Alistair which set Slaz up for an early attack. A lovely pass from Harry S to Matthew created an attack down the left but the opposition made some good tackles to keep the Slaz boys out. GK Nikolai set Dom and Noah off down the left with a great kick out from the back. The Slaz defence worked well together with Freddie’s defensive positioning pushing the opposition attack wide which Harry S swept up. Dom and Harry S linked up well which lead to another Slaz attack from Noah and Matthew. Little Harry and Zach kept pressing the Aire Valley defence creating chances but it was the opposition that started to look the stronger team. A fast break on the right from Noah ended with a good save from the opposition GK and clearance from the defence to keep the score level. There was a solid performance especially from the defenders in this match, the timing of some tackles and man to man marking was impressive from Harry S, Zach, Freddie and little Harry. In the final moments of the game, Freddie found Harry S who passed to Matthew who put a fantastic cross in but unfortunately the team could not take the opportunity to score and it ended the thrilling game with a fair result for both sides 0-0.

Harry S completed a speedy quick change for the last game as he came on as GK. Nikolai playing midfield, made himself a nuisance in the Bradford defence putting them under constant pressure. Alistair then intercepted the ball and quickly passed it through to Dom who calmly put the ball past the Bradford GK. The team continued the attach with Matthew picked up the ball, running through the defence and swept the ball high into the net. There was some good tackling and battling by Noah and Zach stopping any opposition attacks and they created more chances for the team. Little Harry came on and made an impact on the game with his determination and desire to get the ball. A fantastic ball through to Matthew from Noah set up Matthew to score again for his hat-trick. Noah in midfield found his players brilliantly and with some good passing between himself and Zach set Slaz away again in attack. Little Harry and Freddie worked together to stop the opposition attack and after more pressure from the Slaz team, Matthew found the net again to make it 5-0 and 4 for Mathew. Zach ended the game with a strong drive into the D and shot on goal which was only kept out by a Bradford foot ending the game 5-0
It was a great team result today with everybody getting involved in both attack and defence. An unbeaten tournament shows the strength and depth of the team with Freddie taking player of the tournament for his well timed and solid tackles in defence. Well done boys!
