Slazengers vs Halifax; a game Slaz was roaring to win to keep hold of their top of the league position. The whistle blew and Slaz was quick to apply pressure to Halifax. A couple minutes of amazing defending from Lisa Minchella, Lois Birch, Emma Williams and MOM Alice Gascoigne, Slaz quickly turned to attack and, with a swift sweep from Alice, Jess Rudge started off the score sheet with a sweep into the goal. Slaz’s defence, as always, did a phenomenal job and was keen to fight off an equaliser from Halifax, who applied the pressure after conceiving that first goal. With the defender and midfielders working well together to get the ball into the D, Coops, a star striker, took the opportunity to whack it into the back of the goal, 2-0 to Slazengers. The whistle blew and the first half was over, allowing Slaz to come together and reflect.
Starting off into the second half, Slaz had push back and with the work efforts from our midfield players, Hannah, Nicci, Frankie, Melissa, Ruby and Ellie, they managed to constantly turn up the heat, but with Halifax battling well, Slaz struggled to get into the D. However, their perseverance prevailed when Nicci produced a beautiful half pitch pass which bulleted towards team captain Rudgey, creating a 1v1 against the keeper. The opportunity to show off was taken and Rudgey put her skills to the test and scored! 3-0 lead. Slaz continued their triumph and worked vigorously, with Maisie, Ruby, Melissa, Franks, Nicci, Rudge, Hannah and Coops producing some beautiful opportunities upfront. Slaz battled continuously to hold their winning streak, and even had each of the defenders take a run into the attacking half!
Halifax did have their fair share of attacking PC’s and shots on goal, but with our superstar goalie, Erin Haigh, having full control in her D, she kept a clean sheet.
With the final whistle blowing, the end score was 3-0 to Slaz.
Rotherham away next week, fingers crossed for another 3 points!
