Under 12 Girls
Slazenger U12s girls teams were playing today, their first tournament in 2022. With an influx of new players at the end of last year, we made some changes to the teams.
The B team welcomed new players, Neve, Harriette, Lydia and Angel. They were lucky enough to get a home tournament and there was some notable performances. Charlotte’s hard work at training shone through in her game, Lorna was solid throughout, Lillianna made some great saves but player of the tournament went to Beth for her commitment and excellent play. Thanks to Kirsty for managing the team and Isaac for umpiring.
The A team welcomed Kate, who transitioned well into this team. It was a tough tournament for the girls in Leeds this afternoon. The forwards were unlucky to have not scored more but there were some great goals. Amie played well in goal, the defence of Thea, Kate and Amelia worked hard. Amelia also enjoyed a stint on the wing and in midfield with Rosie, who worked hard as always throughout the games which earned her the player of the tournament. A great first tournament of the year – well done girls ![]()

Under 18 Boys
Slaz U18 boys took to the field to play a rearranged fixture V City of York. The boys played a new formation which they have practised at training and it paid off magnificently. Max Godley scored after 13 minutes and Slaz continued to apply the pressure throughout the first half. The York GK played brilliantly and thwarted all attempts at goal. Half time score was 1-0. Within the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half, York won and converted a penalty corner. The Slaz boys kept their shape and continued to apply pressure. The reward came when the team were awarded a penalty stroke which Alex Stacey slotted into the bottom corner of the goal. A couple of minutes later, George Bentley made a brilliant run, refusing to give up, before passing it to Will Gascoigne who was in no mood to miss the opportunity to score. A few minutes later, Matty Smith showed great determination on the back line and slotted the ball back to Alex Stacey who made no mistake in making the score 4-1. In the last few minutes of the game, Will Gascoigne carried the ball through the York defence before passing it to Matty Smith who finished with a great strike to make the final score 5-1. The defence of Isaac Burrows, Alex Stacey and Joe Minchella was almost impenetrable and left GK Aidan Coughtrey with little to do. Matt Pocock and Pieter Aben played their new roles as screens very well, making forward play for York very difficult. A great result for the Slazenger boys which they hope to continue in future matches.
