On Friday 07 August 2020, England Hockey announced the move to Stage 4, the return of competitive activity but not yet the return of competitive leagues. This allows us to train (in groups up to 30), play intra-club 7’s and friendly games at a local level in preparation for the return of league hockey (Stage 5).
We are working on the principal that league hockey for juniors and seniors will be returning as soon. However it is understandable to expect some level of disruption to the season starting.
We expect to restart training on the following days: Mens (Wed 2nd Sept), Ladies (Thurs 3rd Sept), Juniors (Mon 7th Sept, Tues 8th Sept, Sun 13th Sept)
To enable SHC players / coaches / umpires / spectators to return, there are number of things the club and members must do this is set out in the video below:
Our club COVID officer is Will Buckley.
You might recognise will as being Mens 1st Team Captain a few years back. Will is heavily involved in Health and Safety through his job and has generously agreed to take on the important role of COVID officer. Will is key to keeping our COVID planning up to date and ensuring that we keep things as safe as possible as we transition back to hockey.
You can ask any questions via the new COVID@slazengerhc.co.uk email address.Captains, Team managers and other Club officials will also be kept up to date about the club planning, so any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
What do you need to do?
You MUST do the following steps before you can be involved with Return to Hockey at Slazenger Hockey Club.
1.) Complete England Hockey’s Participation Agreement
This should be completed by the Parents of U18s. It can also take up to 24 hours for England Hockey to pass this information on to us, so we suggest you do this soon – please don’t do this last minute!
Complete the Participation Agreement
This is compulsory in order to train/play at Stage 4. Once completed and submitted, you will receive an email confirming your agreement, you will need to forward this to your squad captain or coach.
2.) Renew your Clubbuzz registration (or sign up if new)
All players must re-register as usual to ensure your member contact details are up to date. This includes non-playing members who are involved in training and playing sessions, such as coaches and umpires. This allows us to keep contact details up to date in line with GDPR and England Hockeys’ COVID requirements.

We also suggest that you:
3.) Read England Hockey’s COVID19 Guidance
Please take time to read through the England Hockey ‘advice links’ provided which outline how we must all behave to keep stage 4 running and hopefully allow us to get to stage 5 (competitive hockey).

4.) Read our Risk Assessments
As part of England Hockey’s requirements for return to play we have also created the following risk assessments:
These downloads document the precautions we have put in place to allow the return of hockey.
5.) Volunteer
While we are unsure of what will be required to restart league hockey, it is likely to need more help. This may include people to monitor entrances and exits to the pitch, extra marshals to help out on match days. Please let your captain know if you can help.
Thanks for reading this. We look forward to seeing you all back on the pitch soon!
