Squad: M. Birkett, M. Chilton, C. Gascoigne, R. Tuddenham, P. Wiper
Match Report
The men’s firsts had a trip to the European Capital of Culture on Saturday. Aside from a traveling fair in the pitch-side car park Hull looked pretty much as it always has. The same could not be said for the first team line up however; both Swindon brothers were at home babysitting, and Gunning had been called up by the CO-OP. With its drastically weakened midfield Slazenger were off to a predictable start – two goals down within 20 minutes. It could have been three but for a dramatic drag flick save on the line from Birkett. In amongst the pressure Slazenger did show some signs of excellent play, most notably from Gascoigne, Chilton & Wiper linking up well. By half time Slazenger had pulled one back curtesy of Tuddenham and the firsts were starting to show their resilience and team spirit.
The second half started well for Slazenger, the work rate was impressive for an early season game! The first ten minutes saw Slazenger and Hull trade goal for goal, Tuddenham again for Slazenger. Hull were at times under pressure as Slaz pushed forward in a bid to even up the scores. However when Hull capitalised with a breakaway goal to take the score to 2 – 4 the cultured script was on the wall. The results don’t seem to be going the men’s firsts way in this early part of the season. However it was another entertaining game from Slazenger with plenty to be positive about going into their home game next week to York.

Match Report
Slazenger mens 2nd team continued their good start to the season with a comprehensive 7-0 win at home to Barnsley 1's. Slazenger settled quickly and some good team play resulted in a penalty corner which was duly converted by Asad Baig. Further penalty corner goals came through Ben Graham and Damo Greig with Baig grabbing his second from open play after a defensive lapse. Slazenger keeper Harry Buttery was called into action towards the end of the half but did well to protect his clean sheet after a Barnsley attacker found space in the 'D'.
Slazenger continued their good play in the 2nd half, Greig put in a man of the match performance sat in front of the defensive line with some excellent distribution throughout and the attacking line continued to cause problems for the Barnsley defence. Baig completed his hat-trick and Greig grabbed a 2nd but goal of the game came from Will Gascoigne who picked the ball up in the 'D' and produced some skill to open up a space to slot the ball home. Slazenger will look to continue their good form away at Sheffield University Bankers on Saturday.

Ladies 3 travelled to Sheffield to play there 1st league match.
Slazenger dominated the game from early on, making Phoenix work hard. Slazenger drove the ball into the phoenix 'D' and a good hit was unfortunately saved by their keeper. Phoenix moved the ball fast up the pitch, broke passed the Slazenger defence to put the ball passed the Slazenger keeper. Slazenger worked hard getting the ball back into the 'D' and with numerous shots on goal being saved by phoenix keeper and defence and. Phoenix made this hard for Slazenger and put in 3 more goals before half time.

Slazenger continued to battle hard through out the game. However Phoenix made this hard and converted another 4 goals before the final whistle. Match Report
The ladies 4th Team faced Wakefield’s 5th team at home this weekend and despite being the last game of the day - the sun stayed out!
Whilst the teams looked evenly matched, it wasn’t long until Wakefield scored their first goal but not deterred, Slazenger kept pushing for the equaliser but it wasn’t to be and Wakefield scored again. 2-0 down at half time - Diane Jones left the game to tend to her birthday celebrations. Happy Birthday Di.
Slazenger held the game much better in the second half with superb work by Sarah Paveley in the middle who reversed the Wakefield attack to allow Josie Hughes, up front, an attempt on goal. Saved by the keeper, Slazenger continued to push forward but were soon back defending Wakefield’s third goal. A 3-0 loss for the Slazenger Team but just pleased that the season has started again - we’ll consider that one a warm up!

Match Report
A young but enthusiastic Ben Rhydding Development sided visited Slazenger for our first league game of the season. Slaz’s youngsters showed why they are cruising in their age limit hockey by dominating a first half, Aaron Hunter drilling home two goals from two of many penalty corners. BR did have some attacks, in fact one resulted in a goal line clearance. The second half was more of the same with goals from Adam Searle, Luke Minchella, Luke Boxall and Isaac Burrows.
Final score Slaz 6- 0 Ben Rhydding.
