Winless Slazengers 4ths came as close to breaking their duck as they have all season as they pushed Leeds 4ths all the way before losing 3-1 in Division Six North of the Yorkshire Women’s League.
It was 0-0 at the interval as experienced defender Mandy Lacey led a solid rearguard effort to keep out the mid-table visitors. When Leeds did finally score it was somewhat fortuitous as Jess Downing blocked a close-range shot, only for the ball to find the net via a deflection off her hand.
There was no argument with the second goal as an excellent hit found the top corner – but Slazengers reduced the deficit with a direct shot by man of the match Linda Stacey from a short corner.
Robyn Campbell impressed in defence as Slazengers mounted a determined effort to level the scores and Leeds were unable to kill off the contest until adding their third goal from the final short corner of the game.
