Slazenger 0 – 0 Ben Rhydding A
The boys enjoyed most of the attacking play and were unlucky not to have scored on several occassions. What was most encouraging is that the Ben Rhydding attack never really presented any danger with keeper Ralph Toon seeing very little action.
Slazenger 4 – 0 Wakefield
An impressive performance throughout with many goal scoring chances being created. Two goals each for Luke Gueli & Aidan Hopkinson were enough to secure the win. Wakefield had only one real attack when they broke through to create a one-on-one with Dan Alderson who was decisive and effective in eliminating the threat.
Slazenger 0 – 0 Doncaster
Again, Slazenger enjoying most of the attacking play were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty flick. As the game progressed, Doncaster started to create some chances, testing the Slazenger defence, which held to maintain a clean sheet for the day.
With Doncaster and Wakefield drawing 2 – 2 and Ben Rhydding beating Doncaster 1-0, it was down to Wakefield to who held Ben Rhydding to a 0 – 0 draw so that Slazenger finished the first day of the new season on top of the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League (YYHL). Ben Rhydding stayed up, with Doncaster & Wakefield going down to Division 2 for the second round of tournaments. Next tournament 10th November when we will be back at Ben Rhydding.
