Slazenger continued their great start to the season with their first home victory helped by the return of 5 key players. This time Slaz started strongly and after 14 minutes hard work were rewarded by their first goal as Katie Browne calmly slotted the ball through the legs of the Doncaster keeper.
Doncaster refused to take this lying down and immediately piled on the pressure. Despite some excellent calling and defending from player of the match Amy Smeaton, Slaz allowed Doncaster to level the score from a short corner only minutes later. The game was evening up at this point and Slaz knew that they needed another quick goal to settle things down. Their efforts were rewarded just before the half time break when Jessica Rudge battled hard to put the ball into the net for the home side.
Slaz came out for the second half determined to hold on to their win (unlike last week) and absorbed pressure from Doncaster in both defence and midfield with Sarah Hobbs and Clare Taylor working well together in the centre to deny the Doncaster playmakers.
Despite giving away quite a few short corners, Slaz held on until the dying minutes when Sarah Hobbs scored from a short corner to put the game out of Doncaster’s reach and give Slaz a well deserved win from an excellent team performance. Next game sees them travel to top of the table Hull.
