For the last 4 weeks, Woody (Junior section Chairman) has given up alcohol as part of Cancer Research UK’s Dryathlon campaign, in memory of Bob France; ex steward at Slazengers.
There is only a couple of days left to sponsor him, please donate if you can

The following is from Steve:
Having very close friends and family that have been touched by this dreadful disease I was kick started to become a dry athlete by Simon Kaye who is also a Dry Athlete!
Our recent loss of Bob France, ex steward, groundsman at Slazenger Sports Club, educator, friend and one of the nicest gentleman I have had the pleasure to know has spurred me to become a Dry Athlete. In discussion with Bob’s family they have encouraged me to do this, particularly as most of you will know, my name and athlete do not readily go hand in hand!!
It may be said that I do like a beer! I am going to try to raise £500.00 which coming just after one of the most expensive times of year, could prove to be a tall order. Without doubt we all know someone who has needed the services of all involved with cancer research and the disease itself. For this very worthy cause and for ‘Our Bob’ I would appreciate whatever you can donate to my experience even for only one month of becoming an athlete…albeit a dry one!
All through January I’m not going to touch alcohol. Not a drop. So instead of buying me a drink, I’d like you to donate. Every pound helps Cancer Research UK bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. I’ll be donating my drinking money and if I happen to slip off the wagon, I’ll chuck in an extra £15 to make up for it. Cheers. The Dryathlete’s Oath I promise that I shall take part in Dryathlon™, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern it, committing myself to a month without alcohol, in the true spirit of do-gooding, for the glory of Dryathletes and the honour of Cancer Research UK
I am fully aware there are lot of good reasons for donations to many charities and there are many participants particularly in this initiative this year. If you are in a position to donate, you can do so through the web link below, and please do take a look at the page for obvious reasons.

Let’s together try and get to that £500+ target without me whining about the effort!
