In the second game of the weekend, Slazengers 4th’s faced off against Hull University 3rd’s. Slazengers started with simple play, short quick passes and put great pressure on Hulls defence.
James “Moog” Walker opened the scoring, slipped the ball under the keeper. Nobody not even the goalie realised the ball was in the back of the net until they saw Moog skipping away with a one arm in the air, celebrating.
At half time the score was 1-0 to Slaz. After a quick team talk from the captain, the team re-emerged, and started applying pressure. Slazenger continued to apply pressure, with some strong link-up play in the middle. It was from this work that the ball was injected deep into the D, picking out Danny Moakes and John Toon. After a scramble in the D, it was Toon who knocked it past the keeper – his first for the season.
Minutes later, some elegant passing across midfield opened space for left-wing Toon to bury the ball in the right hand side of the net; a spectacular finish which took everyone by surprise , including John himself! 3-0.
James Walker, determined to be the leading 4th team goal scorer carried the ball into the circle, and neatly slotted it between the keepers pads and into the back of the net. After a sequence of smart passing motions Aiden Hopkinson smashed the ball in to the back of the net to wrap up a decisive 5-0 victory.
