Slazenger’s first league outing this season was against the only team to beat them en-route to promotion last year so there was always going to be a score to settle.
Despite missing key squad players, Slaz started strongly and were unluckily not to go ahead as they managed to find the back of the net …..unfortunately after the whistle had been blown for a penalty corner. Doncaster sensed they had to up their game and made many strong attacks in what was definitely a close fought end to end battle.
The Slazenger defence were all outstanding, new club member Amy Smeaton settled brilliantly into the team, denying Doncaster entry to the D and blocking many shooting opportunities.
At half time the score was still even and despite some strong attacking play and excellent shooting by striker Sarah Cooper the final whistle blew to end the game as a 0-0 draw, both teams feeling that they could have got the points.
Thanks go to Alex Gilbert and Linda Stacey for ably filling in to assist at short notice and showing their versatility. The next Slaz game is away against new entrants to the League Halifax.
